Well my grandson is now a driver but with a license driver of course. I knew this day would come and I hope he does great. He has only been driving for a short time and my daughter only let's him drive on back country roads but he isn't ready for the highway yet with alot of cars.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed he will do fine.

I have trust in him.

I remember when I got my beginner's license. When I did the written and field vision test, they thought I was cheating. Apparently back then my field vision was so great that I could nearly see behind me!  LOL

I'll never forget the day I went for my driver's test though. It was December 17, 1979.  I had borrowed my Sister-in-Law's brother's car because it was small.  It was the day after a major snow storm and the streets had not been plowed.

The instructor was British.  He would not allow the radio to be on. He sat in the passenger seat with his clip board firmly in hand, and gave directions and wrote, and wrote and wrote. He didn't say a single word other than to give a direction IE: turn left. turn right etc.

As I said, the roads, and even the parking lot of the driver testing place, had not been plowed so it was difficult driving.  As I pulled out of the parking spot and was driving towards the exit, another car came in and was driving head on right towards me. Now remember, this is not my car!  The car was less than 1 small car length from me and I swerved to the left to avoid the car hitting us head on.  So there I am on the roads being given directions, and as I'm driving down a road and about to cross an intersection that had 2 stop signs for cars to stop at before turning onto or crossing the road I was on, I see a police car coming from the right, sliding and I knew that he was not going to be stopping at the stop sign!  So I swerved left and then right and got back into my lane, again missing being hit by another car: this one a cop car who slid through his stop sign.  When I swerved right to get back into my lane, my back end slightly bumped the snow bank before straightening out.

Then came the parallel parking. Again, roads not cleared. I parked and the guy got out of the car with a tape measure. I was 18 1/2 inches from the curb.  You are allowed to be 18 inches. He made me redo it!  So I pulled out and did it again. The next time I did it I was less than 2 inches from the curb.

You are allowed 50 demerits, he gave me 49!!!!

I lost 20 for swerving to miss the car in the parking lot.  When I refuted that, and asked him if I should have just stopped or continued to drive and let the other car hit me, he replied "They would have automatically failed."  and he also gave me 20 for  having swerved to miss the cop car, claiming that I lost control of my vehicle because the back end slightly it the snow bank before straightening out. It was a slight bump and hardly even jarred the car, and the car did not go out of control, I carried on driving perfectly straight down the road.  The guy was a jerk!
