My Moffat is pregnant I think she's in her 7th week. She has just started nesting behavior is it normal for her to scratch around at the blankets in her "nest"? ( which is a cat carriage )

So I have offered her three different boxes now I'm waiting to see which she chooses and have closed the carriage

Yes, some such scratchin is surely normal. In the nature they doesnt always have pretty ready made blankets and so. Thay must scratch forward a nest and perhaps a hole themselves, from leaves, or even dirt.

Probably best it is not the carrier, it is better it is somewhere you do have easy access to them if necessary.

Say, if you want to take them out for the daily weighting.

Or if you simply want to observe them to see if everyone is OK.

Good luck!

Here is what I use, I get a box, 3' by 2' by 2'. I line with puppy pads and a toddler size blanket. Then "fold close" the top. Place the box on a heating pad and cut a hole in the side. Make it big enough for mom to step in but not much bigger. Leave a lip at the bottom so blind baby's can't get out. Then during birth or when I need access to them I just open the top. My momma's always love them. Just an idea! :-)

Do you mind if I ask what kind of heating pad you use? I never know if people mean an electric one or one you heat up in the microwave.

I use an electric one because then I'm not having to microwave it every time I turn around. Then I make microwavable "snuggles" to hold with bottle fed babies so they stay warm during feeding. Later I put them in the box for the babies to snuggle with when mom is doing her thing.

Moffat pees in her nest and then refuses to go to it again. So I make a new one and she goes on it and pees and then doesn't come back to it. Is this normal??

After she pees she doesn't go back. At all. So I'm doing the laundry of all the soft fleece and towels and attempt to remake a new nest

I think I need a bigger box... She would rather sprawl on the floor. Today she was unbelievably affectionate she never acts this way. I think we're either 59 or 60 days along

You know now that I think about it I had a queen like that last season. And Duchess has had her last 4 litters outside, so she won't choose a nest an is desperate to get out now that labor is so close. I don't know why some do that. I wonder if you just left the nest alone if when it came time she would use it? Because they mark the nest for the kittens I think. I don't remember, maybe I am talking out my bum lol! I have all different kinds of nests for Duchess to choose from, she just wasn't out. My other queen Snow loves her nest, but still sleeps mostly on the bed.
