My Lazlo had bleeding ulcers. I gave him 10mg of pepcid a/c every day for 1.5 years. We actually only gave it to him when he was diagnosed, and until they cleared up, but they came back a few months later. Then we kept him on it. 1.5 years later, I give it two weeks on / two weeks off, because I don't want to risk them coming back, but I'd rather he weren't on it all the time, every day. He weighs 12 pounds.

How often do you feed your kitty? Sometimes just feeding more frequent, but smaller meals can help. I feed our cats 3 times a day, but Lazlo asks for food between meals, and I give him healthy treats (like freeze dried meat treats) when he asks for food.... I know his tummy wants something to settle it (and he's completely spoiled, because he's my cancer survivor. He also had a mass in his stomach, that was treated with chemotherapy, and he's in remission now. :) ).

I don't know if the vet mentioned, but to provide the 24-hour coverage, the pepcid needs to be given at least one hour after or before meals (so no food in tummy on either side of the pill for at least an hour).

Thank you LDG   hope your kitty stays better, that seams like a lot 10mg   they told me a 1/4 .

anyway she eats always small meals, she has her dry food for anytime,,

she just started eating wet food over the last maybe 4 months or so, she is 12, and just had the mammary cancer surgery,  other than that a lil turkey,or ham, or tuna,, like not much, she seams to like juice.. like the water in tuna.. very fussy eater..

I failed last night, she spit it out..ha ha.. I will keep in mind the hour before or after.. try again tonight.. I did not drop it down her throat, kinda just put it in her mouth.. very fussy eater,

the dry food never changed in her whole life... thanks again

My vet told me to put my one kitty on 1/4 tablet Pepcid AC (not Pepcid Complete!) indefinitely for frequent vomiting. Something didn't seem right to me that I would have to give him this for the rest of his life. Turns out it's IBD. I changed his diet and I give him probiotics. Now there's no vomiting other than the occasional hairball.

By the way, when I was giving my cat the Pepcid, I thought "why is he fighting me so much?" "Can it be that bad?" So, I decided to put a 1/4 tablet in my mouth like we do with our kitties. Holy crap! Did you ever taste a broken piece of Pepcid or let it dissolve in your mouth slightly? It tastes AWFUL. No wonder!

Famotidine tastes quite bitter and can make cats foam at the mouth, so you may find it easier to give it in a gelatine capsule (gelcap).

Oh she definitely won't eat it if you just put it in her mouth. You have to get it over the hump in her tongue so she doesn't taste it and can just swallow it. Putting it inside a capsule isn't a bad idea either.

To pill a cat, sit behind her with your legs bent under you, knees out in a "V", butt on your feet. Her natural reaction will be to back-up: this holds her snuggly in place. If you're right-handed, hold her head up with your left, and push her mouth open with your left forefinger, by placing it at the back of her jaw. Use your right forefinger to slip the pill into the back of her mouth, and just push it gently over the hump of her toungue. Hold her mouth closed for a second (her head still tiled a bit up) while she swallows it. You have to do it quickly and with confidence, it does take a little practice, because they can flail their legs or thrash their head, so the trick is to be quick and have a firm hold on her head. But if you've not done it this way before, you'll most likely take her by surprise so it shouldn't be difficult.

...as to food being the source of the problem, this is really something to consider. Not changing her food isn't a reason for the food not to be the problem. It could very well be there's something in it that has caused internal inflammation over the course of her life, and she's now sensitive to ingredients. Dry food isn't very healthy for a cat, as their bodies are designed to consume fluids with their meals. You might want to look into transitioning her off the kibble altogether, and working to get her on canned foods with meat-based proteins and short ingredient lists. If you want to learn more, these are very helpful sites:

I learned this trick from Carolina when giving my cat his Pepcid A/C.  I got the soft Whiska Lickins treats (not the cheese flavor...that one doesn't work)  Squish one flat, then put the 1/4 pill on top, then squish another flat and put on top of the pill.  Squeeze the sides together so no pill is exposed.  Really squeeze it good so the pill doesn't pop out.  If this makes too big a treat, don't use an entire treat for each side of the "sandwich".  I would give Sven one regular treat, then the loaded treat, followed b another regular one so he wouldn't catch on.  Only once in a great while would he spit the pill out
