We recycle every thing we can: aluminum cans, steel cans, newspaper and magazines, cardboard, fiberboard products (old greeting cards, tissue boxes, cereal boxes, cores from paper towels and toilet tissue, soda boxes, tops of pizza boxes, etc), clear and colored glass, office paper from home (always shredded...same with junk mail), plastic bags, you name it; we recycle it, if we can. We also do a compost pile, but that's primarily a summer-time thing. Our normal grocery bags are reusable bags from Trader Joe's.....love those bags.

Any plastic bags we get are saved for cat litter. In addition (and I mentioned this before), my sister taught me to save bread bags, cereal bags, noodle bags, etc. for scooping as well.

We are allowed to burn in our township; however, we won't burn anything, other than a good campfire from time to time when we have picnics and people want to stay late in the evening to watch the fire burn down.

Most of our trash is used cat litter.....if somebody could come up with a good, environmentally safe way to recycle cat litter, they'd make a fortune.

I heard somewhere that poop could be used as fertilizer for planting flowers in the summer

we recycle everything we can. though often we forget to put it out, so it only goes out about every 2-3 weeks lol.

I'm having similar issues with the cat litter, it's heavy and we have a weight and container limit on garbage. So it's a real pain when I have to dump the whole tray, because that's the weight limit for the container. The cat doesn't like pine litter, but I may have to go back to using it, simply because it's lighter and compostable. Without cat litter, we'd have much lighter trash.

*groans & mumbles* I really have to go do the recycling tomorrow or the next day. The tough part is loading up my car...I can't have hubby help me load it up the night before because I may get called in to work the next morning. Ugh!

We have recycling pickup on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. I can never remember to put the recycling out on the right days! And the recycling center is only open from 2-5 pm 2 days a week, so it's hard to drop it off there, too. I have to load the car on my lunch break and then rush out of the office to get there by 5. So I frequently have a lot of bags of cans and flattened cardboard boxes in my garage :lol3:.

But I did remember to take some in on Tuesday so it's looking pretty good for now. I just HAVE TO remember to put the rest out next Friday!
