Now because it is winter,if you found a stray and her kittens would you take them in or take them to a shelter ? Because I'm not supposed to have my cats in this apartment I would probably take them to a shelter.

This may be dangerous, so you must really talk with the shelter to have safe insurances.

IF they do take in moms with kittens, esp the mom stray, ie perhaps more semiferal  than a family girl thrown out...

Many shelters kill off them  automatically.  They simply dont have resources for such bothersome cases.

So you must be sure they do have foster homes lined up, and have their trustworthy promise, before you turn the family in.

Otherwise it may be just another way of killing them.

If you have been a good tenant and your landlord is reasonable, you can often say something like, "I couldn't turn away this heavily pregnant cat in the middle of January," promise to sign a statement that you'll pay for any damage, arrange for pet rent, agree to find homes for the kittens ASAP, that kind of thing. Seeing things from the landlord's perspective and working with them to find a mutually acceptable solution is usually the better approach. Their property is an investment they want to protect, after all, and that's a reasonable goal.

yeah. in the city i used to live in, the "shelter" would kill all. they didnt have an option, nor a place for putting animals up for adoption to the public (i found that out all too late, when i sent the ferral kitten that i tamed over many months and lots of food, with them thinking the kitten would find a good home). since then theres a rescue group that came up and they dont have a shelter, but they have foster families on waiting lists to take in pets until they get healthy and find a new permenint family. sadly, people still call the animal control of that city when they could save the animals life by just calling a diffrent number.
