Ooooh tough one I think I would split it but I dont think I would do a 50/50 split but I would give some back, as you say it was a gift after all

I wouldn't play the lottery or even accept a ticket as a gift, but theoretically. . .

It would depend on circumstances. Maybe I'm doing just fine financially, and she's struggling along as a single mom. Maybe she has big medical bills. That kind of thing. Obviously the recipient had no obligation to return the ticket, but it was sweet of her to do so .

IMHO a gift is a gift..... And if you give a lottery ticket as a gift, well.... You have to accept the 1/1.000.000 chance of that ticket be a winner. My answer is no. I would probably buy her a gift back, but nope, I would not return it.

This.  If neither party was in financial trouble then that's one thing, but I would definitely be more inclined to be generous if my friend was struggling.  If we were both doing just fine I would probably give her a generous gift, but not the majority of the ticket.  A gift is a gift after all.

I wouldn't give it back, but would give her something --- not sure if I'd split it 50/50...but she should get some kind of acknowledgement and thank you.

I'd probably give it back if I didn't need it. Or maybe the one who gave the ticket is in desperate need of money so I would be very happy to give the winnings.

I'd say Happy Birthday to me!  It was my gift. I would not give it back (being honest here) I would either share some or buy them a nice thank you gift.

It was a gift so there is no obligation to give the ticket back, OR split it. That said; I would have offered to split it with the giver of the gift.

If I were to get a lottery ticket as a gift, and it won a big amount, I would feel obligated to give something back to the person who gave it to me, probably 50% of the win.

However, if I were to give a lottery ticket as a gift to someone and they won, I would not expect or want anything in return. I would be absolutely thrilled that they won!

In fact, something similar happened to me some years ago.  I had been given 4 tickets to a banquet dinner, and part of the dinner was a "Let's Make a Deal", with Monty Hall.  The way they picked people to be on stage was by asking for some odd item, and if you happened to have it, you got to go on stage and play the game for some really nice prizes.

One of the friends I took with me won a chance to go on stage and play the game.  She told me to go as it was my ticket that got her up there. I declined. I insisted that she go. She won a TV and VCR (yes, it was that long ago!  LOL), and she wanted to give it to me.  I was so happy for her, and I told her to keep them;  that it was her ticket and that she won them, and that she should enjoy them without guilt.

Now, if the ticket won millions, I would probably have some pangs, but it wouldn't change what I would do.

When you give a lottery ticket you are also giving them a chance at winning. So if they win, be happy for them.
