I have a kitten that mom cant feed. Vet thinks its because there was only one kitten that her milk would not come in well. So I have been feeding him every 2 hours. (Well my vet told me every 3-4 hours and I was doing that the first 2 days until I read that for kittens this young it should be every 2 hours) The vet didnt seem to think he seemed premature... but said he was dehydrated. He is only putting on 3-4 grams a day of weight. I am really worried about him. I have been using a syringe to feed him. Sometimes he gets ahold of it and really sucks down the formula fast.... but usually he is trying to push it away and just kinda gums it... So I slowly push the plunger to get some fluid in his mouth and wait for him to swallow some and spiddle some out of his mouth. Is there anything else I can be doing? Is it inevitable that he is going to slowly die??

Tube feeding to the stomach is quite effective, and often a great help in such cases. The problem is, it is also difficult and very dangerous for a newbe if you dont exactly know how to do it. In practice, having somebody showing you slowly and exactly how to do it, and helping you with the right gear.

Not all vet know how to do it, but can you ask your vet if he knows anybody?

You do perhaps have some kitten rescuer somewhere near who knows and can give you demo and instruction?

If enough desperate, you can google and look for yourself, "tube feeding kittens" there are descriptions. But it is much better AND safer to be shown by someone knowleable.

There is also the question of getting hold of the right gear. Being in a emergency situation, you arent helped much by tips where online you can buy the correct gear.

Good luck!

How are you feeding him? On tummy, head a little up, like he would with mom,

or on back, like you would with your infant?
