Ok, I have to admit, this kind of pains me to write,

as I have always been a fan of Blue Products...

in fact, my Kitties did very well on Blue Spa and Wilderness for about 5 years

until we went 100% Grain Free and switched brands - then 3 of my Kitties

subsequently developed an allergy to peas and/or potatoes (another story.)

Anyway, a Lady claims that she bought a bag of Blue Freedom,

and when she got home she noticed that the kibble was completely different from usual.

She returned it and a PetSmart employee said it looks like Fancy Feast.

It this a hoax?

Someone wanting some extra cash perhaps?

Or, maybe she dumped the Blue into containers and refilled the bag

with cheap food in order to get a refund or an exchange?

(I have a Law Enforcement background - It is my nature to consider "claims" carefully.)

Or could this be a legitimate mistake?

If so, that is scary and very disappointing.

Here is the story:

Well, it's not Fancy Feast for sure, because FF dry food is VERY brightly dyed, and is two-toned (why yes, I do spend far too much time looking at cat food, why do you ask? :tongue2:). The shapes look like Purina Cat Chow, but in CC, the hearts are dyed red. Sooo. .. .I don't know :dk:. I would suspect that BB changed their kibble shape, but you'd think the sales rep would know that. And it would still have those dark vitamin bits that all BB foods have. I'm not aware of any brand without food coloring that has those shapes.

ETA: Ok, after poking around, it looks like Grreat Choice dry food is shaped like that (see the picture on the bag? http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12131811&f=PAD/psNotAvailInUS/No), and no food coloring. Since I doubt Grreat Choice and BB are made in the same factory, I suspect a local Petsmart employee made the switch. Disgruntled or playing a prank, I suppose.

No the kibbles look like Duralife cat food to me anyway and maybe the employee hates cats so they made a switch or the buyer did it to make extra money

That is funny... you do have quite a lot of cat food info in your internal memory Willowy

But, Grreat detective work there...

That Grreat Choice dry does look just like the picture!

I could see a disgruntled employee making the switch, else the customer

trying to pull one on PetSmart to get a second bag of Blue for the price of Grreat Choice.

Then, sending the info to "Truth..." in hopes of getting some freebies from Blue perhaps?

Its-not-possible,for-an-employee-to-switch-the-food,they-would-have-to-cut-open-the-bag,then-reseal-it,such-as-the-baggies-have-the-reseal,with-the-2-differerent-colors,it-would-be-too-noticeable-to-a-customer.

Why-would-a-customer-do-it?The-kitty-didn't-get-sick,so-all-petsmart-is-going-to-do,is-give-them-another-bag,hardly-seems-worth-the-effort.If-you-bring-a-bag-or-can-back,and-tell-them-kitty-won't-eat-it,they-will-exchange-it-for-another-bag/can,if-you-have-the-receipt.Without-the-receipt,they-give-you-store-credit.Too-much-work,just-to-get-a-free-bag,and-then-to-involve-truth-about-pet-foods?If-they-just-wanted-a-free-bag,why-tell-the-world-about-it?If-it-is-a-hoax,why-to-easy-to-disprove.

Blue-Buffalo-uses-various-manufacturers,for-their-food,wet-and-dry.I-know-who-they-all-are,and-where-they-are-located.I-suspect,these-manufacturers,also-process-for-other-pet-companies.

I-also-suspect-the-stars-and-hearts,are-two-seperate-foods,probably-manufactured-by-that-company.

The-stars-look-familiar,but-its-been-a-good-6-7-years-since-I-fed-that-crap,so-I-don't-remember-which-food-it-is.

Crosses-and-hearts is a common cat food shape combo, probably THE most common for cheap foods---like I said, Purina Cat Chow and Grreat Choice have both of those shapes mixed together. And Duralife, too, apparently. I've never seen a food made with all hearts, though. So I wouldn't guess it to be 2 different foods.

I don't see why an employee couldn't have done it. . .the small paper bags, with the folded-over tops, are fairly easy to open without obvious damage; just unfold them, loosening the glue carefully, put cheap food in the expensive bag, and glue it up again. If not an employee, maybe another customer did it, brought the bag back, and since it looked unopened they put it back on the shelf (but I don't know their policies about unopened returns).

I'm sure it could be an error in the processing plant, too. But third-party sabotage just seems more likely to me. And I think more bags would have been reported by now if it happened at the plant.

I saw this and it's possible that it is Fancy Feast. I have not seen the new IAMS... wonder if that is possible. When using copackers it is always a possibility that something like this might happen. It is probably rare because one doesn't hear about it often but it does happen.

I looked up the Fancy Feast website and I can say pretty certainly that it isn't FF. (I'd link to it but I can't get off the mobile site, don't know if it would work for everyone, but it's at www.fancyfeast.com). The regular Iams has a picture of the kibble on the bag, (at www.iams.com) and it's triangles, but the Healthy Naturals formulas don't have pictures of the kibble on the bag :/.

Anyone know if this BB formula is in plastic bags or a normal paper bag like regular Spa Select? That would make a big difference in my opinion, I think.

You-have-to-cut-it-open-with-scissors,then-it-has-the-little-re-sealable-plastic-thingys,like-a-baggie,thats-why-it-would-be-impossible,for-a-store-employee-to-mess-with-the-bag,it-would-be-to-noticeable.

I-been-feeding-it-for-6-7-years-now.Only-had-one-issue,and-even-tho-ya-never-heard-about-it,those-bags-with-that-code/date,disappeared-from-the-shelfs,because....I-told-everybody-and-their-brother-about-it.Put-it-on-every-board-I-could-find,including-BB-FB.Even-tho-cust-serv-told-me-and-not-very-nice-about-it,that-there-were-no-other-issues-reported,low-and-behold,they-did-appear-on-the-FB-site.

I-suspect,it-happened-at-the-plant,that-prob-processes-multiple-pet-foods.If-it-happened-once,OK,ya-take-the-bag-back,get-another-one,open-it-in-front-of-the-store-manager,BB-tells-that-plant,have-a-good-day.If-it-happens-again,well,now,we-got-a-prob,and-somebody-better-fix-it,lol.Us-petty-parents,is-a-force-to-be-reconded-with,lol.
