I'm a 51 yr old woman who was working on my GED. But lately I have not been going cause my car has been down. Ii have to get this done tis year cause next year the price of a GED is going way up. I can't afford the 40.00 right now either cause of all the bills I got. My dad didn't like that quit school to get married in the 10th grade. But as soon as I get my car fixed or a better car I'm going back for sure.

Don't wait to get your GED.

Do you graduate or did you go after your GED ?

I graduated, but not with very good marks.  My situation at that time was not so good. I was looking after a sick parent at the age of 14 to 16 years, and I was working doing odd jobs and babysitting, while looking after my Mom and going to school. I didn't have time to study.  After my Mom died I was living with my brother and his wife and her 2 kids.  Then they had a baby together.  I was built in babysitter and housekeeper, plus I was having to pay high room and board so I was working pretty much full time while going to school, again, no time to study, plus I was taking care of their kids and the house.

It wasn't easy, but I knew I needed to graduate if I ever wanted to pursue some further education in the future.

Which I finally did! I went to nursing school in my early 30's as a mature student.

Good luck with your GED!!!

Good luck with your GED....you won't regret it.

By now, you all know that I got married when I was 16 years old, a junior in high school.....and yes, I was pregnant. It happens. After our son was born, I finished high school with a correspondence course, got almost straight As, and went to my HS graduation. Rick was holding our baby boy in the audience. (When my name was announced and I walked across the stage, a woman in front of Rick said to the woman sitting beside her, "That's the one who got herself pregnant!" Rick leaned forward, tapped the woman on the shoulder, and said, "Yes, that's the one! Would you like to see her son? Here he is!")

When I hit 40, I went to college as a non-traditional student. It took me 10 years, but I graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Geography and a concentration in Environmental Planning. I was going to continue and work toward my Masters, but I got lazy. I should have my butt kicked.....heck, I'd be done by now!

Same. Actually I graduated a few days before I turned 21. I failed a few grades and dropped out of school for a year, which really set me back, obviously. My home life was horrible and I was bullied through most of school. My final year, I was 2 credits short. My guidance counselor said "I don't want to see you back here again next year, so if you pass all your classes this semester, I will arrange for your marks in those 2 classes to be raised so you can graduate" and so I did and she did. Makes me feel like I didn't really earn my graduation but yeah, I can still say I have that diploma.

I admire you for going for your GED at your age. I think its wonderful and I wish you the best of luck with it.

Was a very depressed kid who just kept failing.  Id do fine on the major tests they do but far as homework/claswork id just not do it.  Then I got sick and very tired from lyme and in end was signed out.  I know it about killed my mom.  But it just was not happening.

I went to a class for GED in 05 or so and 3 classrooms of adults did testing to see where we all were and I scored very well and was told to just go take the test.  I ended up getting a job few days later and just figured there was no real point.  I have alot of anxiety and the thought of calling for the appointment/going for the test scares me.  I am going to look into this areas test locations though now that you brought this up-last time I looked was around 07.  I know it is not as bad as I think it would be.  I fear failing the essay.  I always got a 3 when 4 5 6 are passing.  That would be the biggest difficulty.

I got my GED because I was homeschooled, and we didn't do one of those correspondence curriculums that send you a diploma. I guess I was about 19 when I finally got around to it (had to go to Sioux Falls, that's a long way for that many tests, and they weren't all on the same day). I was worried about the essay part, too, because I'm no author ;), but all they want to see is if you know basic grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, if you can put together a coherent sentence, etc.---the content is irrelevant. They aren't looking for Pulitzer material :tongue2:.

One of my brothers has never gotten his GED, and, now, with all his work history, I'm not sure it would make any difference :dk:. He has never had trouble finding a job. My other brother not only got his GED, but also went to tech school and got his BioMed Tech degree, and he can't find a job. . .because he doesn't have enough work history! Crazy system they have going there.
