Thanks so much everyone!!   I think I will be able to make a little cash until unemployment kicks in.  My mom is retired a couple yrs. now, & last yr. she started cleaning house every other week for a blind lady from church.  She told me that there were so many other older women that wanted their houses cleaned, (& she wasn't interested in doing all that), she gave "nine" to my brother-in-law's mom!

She said there were still others, & she would let them know, & get the info. for me.
So, that will be great!  I think she said average/reasonable was about 50.00 for 3 hrs. So, if I can do that, I can at least get 100.00 in one days work. Then, if I can & am up to 2 days a week, that will really help supplement my unemployment, which I will need! (last time it was just under 200.00/wk. & that was a struggle to cover everything!)  Especially, now that Angel is having to stay on the Cosaquin, & Rx food for now. Not to mention daily lysine as well.  This boy is on more supplements than me.

(after all of his stuff, I can't afford to get my stuff).

I also called social services to get food benefits. Anything I can get will help!!!

Oh, yea, Thanks Natalie, I'm going to call the home office this afternoon, & talk to the H.R. person & see what she says.

I'm sorry about your job. I lost mine with zero notice 3/1/12. Luckily I was paid for my vacation time (I was actually leaving for a week's vaca beginning the day after they let me go!) and given another paycheck after termination. I shed tears as well, I'd been there 5½ years and even today have a hard time dealing with it because of how rapidly my lifestyle needed to change and how I've felt like I'm stuck at a dead end. It ruined many plans my BF and I had to move elsewhere and fix up our projects. I've been employed again just under 2 months, but the state still gives me compensation through unemployment because I actually make -less- working than I did on unemployment. My current job will be letting me go in 2 weeks, not looking forward to being in a tough spot again (hoping something comes through on a potential job), but at least there is notice this time.

MANY :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: that something even better comes along for you soon!

Thanks everyone!

Natalie,  They said what I thought they would say, & honestly makes sense to me.  The new vacation days start after I have been there 2 years, (like original ones after a yr.),

& sense I didn't quite make it to two years, & I don't have any. She thought that I had 20 hrs left from this year. I am sure I used them all,  but if they didn't keep up w/ that, it's not on me.

I filled in  "vacation days" on my time sheet for those times. So, if they think I have more to give me, "I'm taking them, & not saying a word!"
I guess I'll find out if they found different on my last check!

Call the labour board in your area, don't sit around and wait for the company to decide the fate of your vacation. You fight for what is yours!

You worked almost a full second year, and that entitles you to some vacation, not a full 10 days, but a prorated amount.  Trust me, I know. I used to do payroll.  Unless things are drastically different in the USA, you are entitled to whatever vacation days you accumulated between April 4, 2012 and the day they let you go from your job.

I'm so sorry you lost your job!   As far as cleaning houses for people goes, I know in my area people make very good money doing that type of work.  You might even do so well working for yourself that you won't even need any unemployment or help from social services.

I'm not sure if it's different here, or not. I will have to call & find out. as for now, my last check will have my usual 64 hrs. for 2 wks, 20 vac. hours, & a little bonus that was created as my last raise.

(1% of monthly sales each month, so hopefully after taxes aprox. an extra $75-$80.00? Feb. was at 94, something when I left).

At my last job there was no accruing of vacation. You received your yearly vacation time on July 1st. If you were laid off prior to that you did not receive your vacation time.

One of my SIL's cleans houses and does quite well. She also cleans car dealerships, etc at night after they close.

Yea, I can check it out, but I really don't think I will get any more, sense it states AFTER 2 yrs. You get 10 days.  (but I see what Natalie is saying, sense I was IN my second yr).

Yes, I figure if I can get 5 houses a week, I will make close to what I was making at my job, sense I was only making 10.00/hr.
I will be nice if I can do a couple, two days in a row, then one the next.

Maybe I can do Tues, Weds, & Thurs. Then I could have Mon & Fri.s off.
I'll probably have to start w/ just a couple a week & work my way up to doing more.

"One good thing, it would help me loose the 20lbs I need to loose!" "I weigh the most I've ever weighed right now, & sitting at a desk all day didn't help!" (It only took me 30-40 min.s to clean the showroom.)

Update,

Great news guys, I got some cards from Vista Print for house cleaning & organizing a couple of weeks ago. I have been hustling to get some jobs. Through a friend that owns a B&B,( who I have helped a little w/ cleaning), I got one. "A  2600 sq.ft house!"  Then, I went into a shop where I know the owner,( who lets me put out cards,) & turned out he needed someone, because he has a bad back, & can't do it himself.  I spent 2 full days giving his house (2100 sq ft ) a spring cleaning on Mon. & Tues. Boy, was I exhausted!!!

So, now, I have two regular every other week gigs!!

......Just gotta hustle, & get a few more, to fill more days!!

Yay!  Congrats! It's always nice to read some good news!

I wish you lived closer, I'd hire you in a heartbeat! I seriously need to find a new cleaning person.
