Hi I'm new to these forums.

I'm kind of lost of what to do and am really worried about my cat.

Some details first:

My cat is 14 years old and still looks good for her age. See her picture:

When she was about 1 year old she was in an accident and hurt the area of her tail and back quite badly. She recovered soon, but the vet told us she would have problems jumping after she would reach the age of 10. Now she's 14 and can still jump.

The problem:

When we had our dog, the cat would urinate in the house to mark territory. This was a big issue for my mom, but once the dog died, she didn't do this anymore. However, she started to have problems with diarrhea.

She keeps pooping all over the place and often has explosive diarrhea. Sometimes I see that there's blood in there too. Her furr is not what it used to be as she's not keeping any nutrition inside. She looks really skinny. She's been having this problem for longer than a year.

We've been to a vet to check if she has parasites etc, but he couldn't find anything. Nothing makes sense. We've tried different food, such as cooked chicken, sensitive stomach food among other things. Nothing seems to help.

My mother has to clean her poop from 3 to 4 times a day (on the floor, on the pillows and difficult places to get to) and the litter boxes are completely full. Its amazing how much can get out of her stomach.

My mom is especially frustrated as the cat is living with her and she's tried everything. No one wants to pet the cat as well, because she has diarrhea on her tail many times, stinks and makes our clothes dirty. My mom has been thinking of bringing her to the vet to sleep, because it's too much for her to deal with. It's really a big problem.

Other than her poop problem she seems to be fine, which makes it all the more difficult. She's still the loving cat that I know and it would kill me to give up on her.

What to do?

Thanks

Sorry your cat is having so many problems.

I would take the cat back to the vet and have him run additional tests for parasites.  As well as a blood panel for seniors--at 14 she qualifies !

There is a condition called IBS, IBD--irritable bowel syndrome.  I'd also ask the vet about this.  There are tests you can do for this.

I'd also go back to the boiled chicken + rice diet to see if that lessens the symptoms.

I would also give your cat probiotics, human kind is fine, around 10 billion live cells, 5 billion would be okay to start with.

Keep us posted as to what is going on.
