My male cat who is a year and a half has recently started licking the coal bucket. Does anyone know if this means he is lacking in something. My other male cat doesn't do this.

Welcome to the site! :) I would take away the coal bucket because licking coal is bad for cats and could cause upset stomach and other possible ailments. I honestly do not know what a coal bucket is but would still suggest using another type of bowl. Secondly I along with Willowy wonder what you are feeding your cat.

What brands of food?

I don't know what kind of coal you mean. . .but wood charcoal is often ingested for detoxing purposes, some brands of pet foods even have it included. So he may have an upset stomach :dk:. I would remove it if he keeps doing it, though. And if it's anthracite heating coal, yeah, that stuff is toxic so especially remove it if he's licking that.
