Good day to all!! :wavey: This last weekend I attended a CFA cat show. I had not been to one in quite a few years so I really enjoyed it. Talked with so many wonderful people and had the pleasure of viewing so many beautiful purebred cats. My favorite has always been Snowshoes but that has changed as of last weekend. I love BURMESE cats. Oh those darling faces with a gentle turned up nose and big endearing eyes. They have a gentle temperament but yet have energy. They are easy going and from what I am told get along with other animals easily. I have never owned a purebred cat but if I did or ever could, a burmese would be it. I did fall in love with this one tiny burmese kitten, of course. But part of me would feel guilty about buying a purebred cat knowing there are so many other cats, stray, abandoned and neglected that need a home and if I seem to think :lol3: I have a spot for another cat in my home shouldn't that cat be one in need.

Have you or would you ever buy a purebred cat to get a specific temperament, size, color, etc. If you have or could, what breed would you love to share your life with?

I think I mentioned the other day that when Banshee passed away, I had eventually started thinking about a Maine Coon kitten.....I've wanted to share my life with a Maine Coon for quite a while now, but wouldn't do so while Banshee was alive. But then Mollipop came into my life, followed by Tabby, and now Muffin....which takes us to eight cats. So no Maine Coon. And at this point, even if I could, I wouldn't do that to Mollipop....she's my baby girl.

I like to say that instead of a Maine Coon, I got a Fluffy Butt.

Every cat needs a home and I will probably get it from a shelter.  ( AND FIXED OF COURSE ) I think I would get a Perisan cat next time. They are so pretty and it will be another female. Us girls have to stick together. Bella & Thunder get along together when they are in a good mood so another female will fit in just fine. But because we are in a 1 bedroom apartment and  smaller we can't get another one right now. They are beautiful cats.

Ragdolls or Siamese. Ragdolls are so beautiful! and I love Siamese because they 'talk' a lot

That is why I would not "buy" a purebred cat even though I would love to, someday. There are so many that need homes and I already have one that is waiting for an opening at my house whom I cannot refuse or forget about. :bigwink:

There are "purebred rescues" for certain breeds too. I bet the Persian rescues have many that need homes. When you are ready, I am sure you will find that ONE who was meant to be yours. :)

I wouldn't buy a purebred cat.... those things are super expensive!  Have always wanted a Maine Coon, though!

:yeah: No room for purpose-bred cats, in fact I've only gotten a cat on purpose, from a shelter, once, and that was a long time ago! :lol3:

But if by some magic there was no such things as homeless cats and buying from a breeder was the only option. . .well, I don't like extremes, and almost all breeds have something extreme about them (otherwise what would be the point? :tongue2:). So I would want a more natural breed like a Maine Coon, or maybe an old-style Siamese (do they call them Thai now?).

I always adopt from the shelter. Homeless brown tabbies are my favorite breed of cat
But if I ever had a purebred cat it would probably be a Maine Coon, Bengal, Pixiebob or Ragdoll.

There's a couple I would have, British shorthair, Scottish fold, Norwegian forest cat :) I don't have any issues with buying a breed :)

I have owned purebred cats. One was an F3 Savannah and one was an F1 Bengal. They where both cats, that, the breeders couldn't sell or breed. So, they cost me just shipping. Plus, they came castrated and healthy, more then any DSH or DLH I ever had
.

The other four cats, I want are, as follows:

1) A pure Geoffrey Cat (Leopardus geoffroyi)

2) A 75% Safari Cat. A Safari cat is the rarest of the recognized hybrids (Bengal, Chausie, Savannah, and Safari). Now, 50% Safari are less then 200 in the world. Could I be satisfied with that, o no
. There is one breeder, that, has 75% F1's. They can be seen here: http://catswithcattitude.intuitwebsites.com/. Now, if, you are wondering, why a 75% F1, it is simple, they get to be 35lbs, as opposed to the 20lbs of 50% F1. Plus, of course, have the wonderful markings of the male Geoffrey Cat. Who, is only 8 to 10lbs.

3) My dream cat, would be the cross between the Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) and a domestic. This hybrid can be seen here: http://www.savannahcatbreed.com/breed-info/jambi-cat. Select Exotics is the only one, that, I know of, that, ever produced them. There Fishing Cat is no longer breeding
. So, no F1 them. Plus, there F1 Asia is no longer breeding. Not surprisingly, she, isn't for sale or adoption

4) If anyone, has, a pure Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) they do not want. I would love them too. Yes, I know, not going to happen. A nice "articele" on a "pet" Fishing Cat http://www.hemmy.net/2007/10/21/extreme-pets-fishing-cat/. Yes, I know, I am the crazy cat lady
.

I've never owned a pure bred cat, and probably never will.  I won't buy from a breeder when there are so many cats already who need homes.

Feralvr, you said it best, and I can't imporve upon it! I think exactly the same thing.  But, in a fantasy world, I'd choose a Maine Coon!
