Teddy,
Is there a reason you can't get homeowners (actually, a condo owners policy) and personal umbrella insurance policy issued by the same company?
If your cats remain strictly indoors, how could anyone be bitten by the cats?  Certainly you wouldn't invite Brat to visit.
Burglar?

But I don't know if they would have rights to sue one whom home they broke into, it is possible here, but I don't know if your country is similar, I think that at least in Texas it would probably be just self defense, while here it would be probably failing to control pet, we joke here that some our laws seem to protect more criminals than lawful persons, but it is way it is, attempt is to give everyone equal rights but I guess it is bit work in progress still.

Hi JTbo !   Thank you for your kind comments.  Here in the United States anything is possible,  especially with this Attorney General's Administration.  There is a story about the child who murdered his parents then appealed for cleamency with the Court because he was an orphan.  I was in the jewelry business and I experienced an armed holdup by well known organized crime figures. The perps shot at my wife.  Two bullets passed through her hair,  she was unharmed - I joked with her that she had so much hairspray on her head that the bullets just bounced off onto the floor.  I had a gun fight in two different directions out in the open.   I did not shoot at one of the criminals because he was in front of the windows which let to a  busy highway.    An Angel was on my shoulder that day because they missed me after 8 shots at close range but I did not miss. That criminal has been a murderer and serious criminal for most of his adult life,  he has committed a variety of heinous crimes,  " a record a yard long" as the cops say.   I regret taking a life but they should not have shot at my wife, it was also 6 months after we lost a 25 year old son,  bad timing on their part. Plus,  only I am allowed to shoot at my wife !  Stay Well - Warmest Regards, Teddy J

To me the big liability concern with an outdoor cat is always rabies.   If you TNR these cats and get them current with rabies shots your biggest liability will be gone otherwise if Squeaky were to bite the brat things could get very bad for Squeaky unless you could prove she was vaccinated.    Did you have any luck looking the list of rescue groups in Florida that I posted?

Hi Bastfriend!  Thanks for you concern!! The cats have had all of their shots and I have the certificates.  It looks like the Hobe Sound Animal Rescue in Palm City Florida  is going to take my two friends. They are over loaded with cats and the feral cats are very hard to place.  If only the TNR Policy could get around to intelligent people to help administer it.   Placing Squeaky and Elton is a bitter sweet victory,  I will not be able to play with them.  I will especially miss Squeaky because of the relationsip we built over 6 months from a wild child to a young lady who still like to roll over and show off for me and my dog.   But, I know they will be well cared for and safe.  It's tough love in a way, but another good thing might come out of it,  I am being encouraged to write book about a number of things - the cats will take up many chapters.  I will donate the profit to The Hobe Sound Animal Rescue in Palm City Florida that houses and cares for 200 cats. They are always in need of money to no only pay the food bill but also the Vet bills;  I am very appreciative of Pauline, the Executive Director and her volunteers,  especially Daria for making the original connection and trapping the cats to put into effect the TNR Program.  They all really give of themselves and Thanks to them for helping me protect these wonderful little creatures, Squeaky and Elton, as well as all of the good work that they do to respect and preserve the life of over 200 other cats.  They are a no kill shelter and there is a lot to be said for that!   Especially considering the human life that was  just lost in such a "cavalier" way regarding the 89 year old lady who died because no one at the Retirement Home in Bakersfield, California would protect her life by giving her CPR.  If human life is squandered so easily,  what can we say about the life of an animal.  Thanks to "Angels" who protect the good things that are still here in this bitter world in which we live; be kind, be loving to all things living, good Karma - you will be rewarded.

I am glad you found a good situation for Squeaky and Elton even though you will miss Squeaky. I hope your book is a huge success!

Yes, thanks to all of the good people (angels ) who do care so much to help others - animals and people alike, they will be rewarded! I am very glad to see that Squeaky and Elton are going Hobe Sound Animal Rescue but know this is hard on you to say goodbye. I believe that this is in the best interest of everyone and especially the cats. I am sorry about this whole dilemma but now the cats will be out of harms way of "those" other people with the "very bad" parenting of that little boy. :( It will be bittersweet for you to have to let Squeaky and Elton go but now you will not have to stress and worry over them and this situation. The TNR organization that I work with will come in and take away feral cats that they have done (and microchipped) in a situation such as this where the cats safety (or others because of their own stupidity and ignorance) could be in jeaopardy. They will relocate them to another colony or feral sanctuary. I am sure you will miss them as they have become a bit of a reprieve for you in caring for your dear wife (bless you both :vibes::vibes::vibes:) Maybe one day you can bring in a cat to live inside with you, your wife and your dog... who knows. Best to you, Teddy, and your wife. :vibes::vibes::vibes:

I am so thrilled that you found a good rescue to take the cats!   Soon you won't have to worry about the child being a danger to them or in danger or insurance at all and who knows what placements the rescue may find in time for them.    Those cats are lucky you are there to take care of them and help them find their way.

Dear Bastfriend, Thank you for staying with us in spirit as we have found so many fine people who are blessed with a special kindness and love.  It is nice to know that there are people like you all at thecatsite.com who make this cruel world a better place.   Like many "no kill" animal rescues,  the Hobe Sound Animal Rescue in Palm City, Fl.  is a very special place managed by a wonderful director, Pauline Glover and with a cadre of volunteers who give unconditional support,  but they need help ($) and are having a fund raiser April 6th.  Feeding 200 cats is the easy part, paying for the vet bills with an aging population is tougher.   As I walked Nikki early this morning,  I wished that Seniors who are ill and need attention but have very little money were lucky enough to find  similar support,  emotionally as well as financially.   I don't want to go off on a tangent,  I will in the future,  since I have been a caregiver for 19 years and I have seen the ugly part of the health facilities.  Stay Well, Thanks Again, Teddy J

My Dear Friend Feralvr,  Thanks for you very kind wishes and thoughts.  Caring for Squeaky and Elton these past 7 months have been a wonderful experience for me.  I have not been doing too well healthwise (severe spinal issues)  and if it weren't for Nikki, Squeaky and Elton, I would stay on the couch most of the time and only get up when I was  needed to care for Helaine.  I take strong pain medications that make me lethargic but still somewhat in pain.  I can't have surgery and I have been to number of spinal surgeons and they all say that they cannot help me.  Having that responsibilty as a caregiver for them all has sparked me into long walks and keeping my cats out of harms way;  its been a blessing in disguise.  Once they will be located at the Hobe Sound Animal Rescue in  Palm City, Florida I plan to make regular visits.  I also plan to help them raise money that they seem to need so desperately.   I could not believe how our residents, educated people  with money here in our condo,  could be so cold to the treatment of two little guys.  Especially since the 85% residents are not here most of the time,  they are what is called "snowbirds".  I have another name for them but  I am sure if I used it the editors will cut it out.  Squeaky and Elton do no harm in any way, they do not make a mess, they are not noisy, they are not aggressive -  I could go on.............Elton is a character,  a "neat freak",  after I feed him,  later,  I find that he has pushed the white sterafoam dish out of his area in the bush to the side of the driveway.  He keeps a clean house!  He is a very sweet older guy who was previously neutered and therefore was an abandoned housecat;  he was perfectly tame from day one - he was not even afraid of Nikki.  Squeaky on the other hand took 5 months to get to touch,  I never reached out for her, she reached out for me.   - now she can't get enough of being groomed and scratched.  Yesterday I called her from quite  a distance ( I was walking Nikki) across the gold course, she was leaving but when she saw Nikki and I she turned around and went back to  the area of where  I get off of the elevator.  She  patiently waited for me to come with dinner and a quick scratch and a little conversation - I talk and she squeaks!..  She is still weary of humans and rightly so,  I am too!   I will never be in a position to have a cat inside, I am allergic to cats and my little Nikki would never share me!  The first time I went downstairs with food, I left Nikki at the door.  She did not move and waited for me to come home.  When I entered, Nikki knew I was with the cats and she grabbed my pants leg in her mouth and shook it as she growled her displeasure with my cheating on her!  It's all kind of comical and great subject matter for a book - there is so much more but I don't want to monopolize the site. Thanks again for you friendship!  Teddy J

Teddy J, I really love your stories. Your love for animals really shows through. Aren't they marvelous, each with his/her unique personality and traits? They communicate so well, even without language as we know it.

Thanks Vball91 - I really appreciate you kind remarks.  I think that humans could learn alot from animals,  I have in the past 7 months.  Unfortunately, we have allowed many people to grow up indifferent to life - animal or human.  We are "politically correct" !    When we should scream "murder" we politically correctly say "Euthanized".  I personally never use that word because murder is murder!  People use that term  "euthanized"  because it makes it sound "clean,  nice and neat" when it is "dirty". Stray well,  Warmest Regards, Teddy J

I really like your thinking as I think alike :D

Sorry to hear about your health issues, I'm not best health by myself either, but thankfully not those horrible pains :(

Here they would operate one nearly at no cost as our public health care is paid from taxes, of course that might not help you, but I know at least one that did move to get serious health issue fixed.

Here I think that instead of easily killing feral cats we should use some of tax money to let them live, after all we pay medicine for everyone despite one being very rich and not needing such support, so I think some money could be better used to support life and prevent removal of lives.

I think that life itself is more important than anything else, but I often find being minority, work and money seem to be above everything else too often, but I guess it takes near death experiences to realize what truly is important, so not everyone has those of course, I have had too many.

Hi JTbo - Thanks for you input!   If it was not for the fact that our politicians want to be re-elected so many of the politically correct policies would not exist.  Additionally,  many of our social problems could be solved easily with logical answers rather than "politically correct" ones.  Anyone with a brain would immedicately see that the TNR program makes the most sense from every standpoint;  but so many ignorant people in positions of power want to kill poor little creatures just because it makes them look tough to their constituents.  Its sad that we give life sentences to violent criminals - murderers- but to innocent little guys who just want to eat get a death sentance instead.  One of the Condo Board members who did not have the backbone to  sign his posting placed an article on the bulletin board about how feral cats kill endangered species here in Florida and throughout the country.  I know who did it but for legal reasons I cannot say.  It is the same person who was going to have me charged with a terroristic  threat because I wrote that if anything happened to Squeaky and Elton, "I would not be so loveable".  What a pompous  ass!  What a fool that person made of themself.  They thought that by posting such an artical I would look bad and it would show others here that I don't know what I am talking about and why the cats should be removed and murdered!  They thought that I would rip the article down in embarrasement -  instead I posted the following next to that article:  "

Thanks for the article; it reinforces my point and the point of every Humane Agency regarding the feral cat situation. If the cats are fed they will not seek other food such as endangered species. The feral cat program throughout the United States is the TNR program. That is to trap, neuter and release the cats. That is what we have done! It is not only the most humane thing to do; it is the most cost effective thing to do and it is the program throughout the United States. There are many programs that set up feeding stations so that cats do not seek endangered bird species. Let’s face it if you were starving what would you do? And that is what they do: “SURVIVE!” The cats that visit us have been trapped, NEUTERED and released per program standards. The cats have had all of their shots including rabies. They are well fed therefore do not bother with birds but rather mice; their favorite because they run, the cats love a good chase. IF THE CATS ARE WELL FED, THEY WILL NOT EAT BIRDS. I believe in what is logical, humane and nationally accepted as the solution to the feral cat situation. I have quoted and acted accordingly per the National Program for handling feral cats but it will not satisfy some peoples lust for killing two, sweet little cats. I am doing the best I can to get them adopted by the Hobe Sound Animal Protection League and privately. With all of the problems here at the Anchorage I can’t believe that there is such a fixation about 2 cats (1 completely tame – a former house cat). “Squeaky and Elton are not “feral”. They visit for a good meal once a day, they don’t make a mess, they don’t bother anyone, then they leave (unless I pet and play with them). They don’t hang out in the garage unless they have chased a mouse there. They catch it and leave. I ask the person who posted the article, if you are sincere, read about feral cats on the web. Thanks, Teddy J

Hi Bastfriend, I hope you are well - A very beautiful, cool morning here in Florida.  I plan to visit the Hobe Sound Animal Rescue in Palm City Florida on Saturday.  Hopefully,  I will get an approximate date for their relocation at that time.  Too bad that we have to relocate them,  they are such an asset to this our community of "heartless, selfish, inhumane people".   I am pleased that the guys will be going to a very caring,  protective enviornment.  I will be able to visit them once or twice a weekb  but it won't be the same for either of us.  Squeaky in particular has added so much to our life - she is a trip,  what a personality!  Last night I was scratching her under her chin while holding her little head in my hands, she was in heaven!  She went back to take a nibble of the food I placed and I went across the driveway to do the same for Elton who patiently sat with an envious look like "how about me!"  I went toward him and Squeaky immediately stopped eating and ran in front of me toward Elton as if to say " I'm not sharing him!  I had to break up the beginning of a fight because Elton was not backing down and took a swipe at her.   She them went for him until I removed my hat and shook it at her.  She did not run but I interrupted her mindset. I knew that I would have to neglect Elton that evening because she was not going to let me near him and visa versa.  I told him "tomorrow" I will give you all of my attention before Squeaky arrives - she usually gets here about an hour after Elton.  I feed him early because she will take his food even if I just put hers down a bit away from his,  she goes out of her way to insure that he does not get anything that she has not approved.  Then I pick his food up and switch food plates with her even though it is the exact same everything.  She then proceeds to eat his food thinking that she got something special, aned she is satisfied.  It's kind of like a child who wants her siblings dinner or toy etc.  I really enjoy the interaction and I am angry at the instigators on our Board who are so intent in ridding our community of Squeaky and Elton.  I will make one last attempt at trying to set up a feeding area out of the way but I don't think I can melt these stone hearts that are in control on our Board.  They are not even here in Florida most of the year but it seems so out of place that they are obsessed with these beautiful,  lively little guys. I am really angry and I don't sleep well at night.  So when you take a  person who does not sleep well and is akind of "creative" it is a bad combination.  Last night I was thinking of how I can "repay" these members of the Board with a little prank of sorts.  Bad for them since the worst of them lives on the 4th floor.  The light bulb lit up over my brain and I thought that when Squeaky and Elton are safe, when I walk Nikki early in the morning or perhps late at night and I pick up her doggie poop, I would save a little bit and place a light film on the 4th floor elevator button.  It will be an "artistic expression" of the animal vote of displeasure at what they have done!!  Making two undeserving little guys to become homeless (even thought they are going to a special, safe new  home)!  Can you believe that I am 75 years old and think like this ?  I guess I will channel the rest of my energy intop writing a children's book and give the proceeds to the Hobe Sound Animal Rescue - a very worthy charity in case any of the members would like to help the feral cat population (about 200) little guys.  Thanks for people like Pauline and her crew - what would our friends do without their love! Thanks so much for caring-  Stay Well!  Teddy J (last night I had a Fruedian slip and signed off "Stray Well" instead of Stay Well.  You see my committment.  Love You All, You are special people and I am privledged to belong to this community!!  Sorry if I goofed - I did not proof it!

Part of my email to the Director of the  Hobe Sound Animal Rescue asking for help to save two lives by taking two feral cats into the overloaded facility:

Today  I listened to the Condo  Board meeting via a conference system;  when they discussed the cats, Squeaky and Elton,  there was so much misinformation and venom  that I chose not to try to correct anything,  it would have been a waste of time,  they were all in the we hate cats mode and we also hate Teddy J too!  They are very opinionated, if you are not in their click,  if you don’t believe what they believe, if you were not brought up the way that they were brought up with the beliefs that they were taught from childhood, ,  you are in an “untouchable”  cast so to speak.   I was going to explain to them that Cats is spelled   C a t s   not  Katz so they don’t have to spew so much hatred toward two of Gods little creatures.    When the President of the Board, a “suckcessful”  Lawyer  (misspelled on purpose) ,  because she married the owner of the company,   states with authority that “Feral Cats attract birds” (get that -  attract “birds!” - and they both make a mess – the birds and the cats etc ,  the cat food is all over the driveway (another un-truth)  and is also attracting other feral cats, foxes, rats, mice, coyotes and raccoons  (she missed lions and tigers)   (not true because I pick up what they don’t eat when I walk Nikki for the last time in the evening).   She suggested that everyone spy on their neighbor and report who is feeding the cats beside Teddy J.  Does it remind you of other countries where the ultimate leader has neighbors spy on neighbors and report accordingly – she said to “take pictures” (get that – “take pictures”)  if you can of anyone who feeds the cats”  so that retribution can be exacted?  A little unrealistic,  a mental case or what?  She plans to get a lawyer to bring me up on whatever charges can be applied and give me grief.  I keep getting the impression that I will not be getting a Birthday present from her!  Is there any question that this person has a mental problem ?  What is there to say!   I have already written 2  long tutorial letters to the Board correcting their erroneous statements.  I will bet that they were never distributed.  I personally tried to speak to our Condo Board President,  she lives in my building (my luck!) she rudely turned her back and walked away in the middle of my conversation.   She does not like men to whom she cannot dictate.  I am open minded but very strong, I am the last person to be dictated .  If you heard the meeting today you would have gotten so angry at the misinformed lecturing the misdirected about feral cats,  some of it was so ridiculous that I wanted to holler into the phone but  I chose to remain quiet.  As Forest Gump said so eloquently   “stupid is as stupid does!”.    One of the residents (a female no less which was surprising “or not surprising if I knew which one said it,  I could only hear not see who said it !”)  -  she suggested that when they spray chlorine shortly in the near future to kill mold in a certain outside areas that they also “spray the cats and kill them” so they would not have to pay a trapper $500..  We are talking about financially set, older people.  Some of the residents and Board members   are vile people who appear to be nice;  hard to believe if you met them,   the lack of decency that they espouse is not surprising.   I could write pages but there is no sense trying to reason with people who hate and do not even know why.  Please try to take at least Squeaky, she is about a year old while Elton is  older.  Thanks, Teddy J  -  Let’s talk tomorrow morning if you have time.

These are real people with a love of animals, especially cats.  They are overloaded now with 222 cats and are only budgeted for 200 cats.  Now they have just accepted Squeaky and Elton so they will have to manage and care for two more.  I offered to support Squeaky and Elton and pay flor their food and Vet bills.  Thank God for people like Pauline and Daria and her staff of volunteers. If anyone can lend a little financial help I know they would be grateful for any donation.  They are having as fundraiser 4/4 in Sewalls Point - contact them for details - they are easy to find on the web.

Teddy - :hugs: I also thank God everyday for people who go above and beyond to save and rescue cat's from terrible circumstances. You have done good work here for Squeaky and Elton too. It bears repeating and so truthful: Some people you cannot change their ways or opinions no matter how hard you try as they don't seem to have the heart, will or desire to become better. Such a shame but you gave it your best. :hugs:

Thanks for your kind comments - I love all of God's creatures except for many of the humans I've run into lately (I use that word " human" losely) .  After listening  to the conversation of our Condo Board I though how hatred in world get's started and progresses to the destruction of entire segments of populations. I thought of Africa where arms are cut off  little children,  how women and children are raped and murdered.  How men are hacked up and on and on..........I never realized the depth of indifferent violence  and the lack of humanity by seemingly "normal" people.  I will make it known to the press in one way or another,  I plan to expose this terrible attitude and put it to rest so that others will think twice about hurting God's creatures.   I must be careful because the Board is looking for a reason to charge me legally with whatever to  cause me grief.  In one letter to the Board I went into a tutorial about  feral cats etc.,  especially "Squeaky and Elton and explained how loveable they are and how they crave human attention and that they are absolutely no threat to anyone.   I think I might have posted part of it on the cat site, if you can find it. In  my last sentence I said that" if any harm befalls the cats, I will not be as loveable as I am now"  (tongue in cheek!).  The retired judge took my letter to his lawyer to determine if they could charge me with a "terroristic threat" - could you believe it,  me not being loveable is a "terroristic threat"!  I also thought how inept he must have been as a lawyer and judge  to seek the advice of a lawyer.   I laughed in the judge's face  when he told me his lawyer suggested that he file a complaint with the police dept.  I would like to see that one come up before a judge when he tells what the "terroristic threat was" ;  I have not heard a word yet - I think that perhaps someone pointed out how ridiculos he will look if he goes further - What is wrong with these people?  Well, wait until they see my two wild ducks that have just come back to me from last year.  I use to  feed them every day in the late afternoon,  and here they were for dinner again. How loyal is that - really cute!   I could not believe my eyes when I got a phone call yesterday that the two ducks I fed last year have returned to me.  It was definitely the same two;  a little more filled out and looking really good.  I feed them right in front of our building but across the street on the golf course property.  The funny thing is that if I do not come out as they get more hungry, they get more brave and  walk up the driveway and proceed to the elevator.  It's a good thing they can't reach the elevator buttons or they would come up to the third floor and knock on my door for dinner! Ducks are really cute!!  I am sure the Board will have something to say about it.  About a month ago one of the members remarked that "I hope you are not feeding the wild geese that come down from Canada; I replied that I was not!  I further stated that I was feeding the ducks instead but if the wild geese appear I will feed them as well.  She just walked away in disgust!  I think she is the one that made the remark about spraying the cats with chlorine and killing them so we don't have to pay $500 for an exterminator.  God has already punished her for all of the poison in her soul because she has cancer.

Oh Teddy. :hugs: My goodness, I don't think God punishes people by giving them cancer and I am thinking that you don't believe that either in your heart. I know you are dealing with much disgust in the "human" race right now. BUT there are SOOOOOO many good people out there, people like us. You are a good man with a very deep passion and love for the creatures that we share this earth with and you might come on too strong in these recent situations you are having with the "board". Now a days, yeah, anything that has the "scent" of a threat ( even though your comment In my last sentence I said that" if any harm befalls the cats, I will not be as loveable as I am now" (tongue in cheek!). had a side of hilarity to it and I know what you meant by it ;)) is taken as a serious one. I do get your sense of humor and it is much like mine and sometimes I have to "bite my tongue". :lol3: I have to laugh now that you are also feeding your two special ducks. I can envision that soon the area will be filled with many geese and ducks. I am going out on a limb here, :anon:, but part of me thinks you enjoy aggravating these "members". :lol2:

Teddy, try and have a LOVELY, HAPPY DAY!!!!! :sun: :heart3: :high5:
