Do I need to adjust his commercial food if Mr Poe is getting chicken gizzards & hearts or chicken wing tip segment 4 times a week for dental health?

His customary daily ration consists of two 3 ounce cans of food plus 2 Tablespoons of dry, divided up into four servings.

Do I need to reduce the canned / kibble on the days he gets "dental raw" or are the calories in a gizzard and a winglet minor enough to just ignore them.

BTW - he adores gizzards - gnaw, gnaw, gnaw, paw it, flip it, kill it, devour it. Fortunate that he's the one who enjoys them, as the other two cats are completely uninterested. He's the one who had inflamed reddish gums back in December, now fine.

Except for weight issues, I see no need to adjust his commercial canned food.  I would however ditch the kibble, especially on days you feed raw gizzards/bones.  Has to do with the way the cat digests the food--and calories.  Dry food has NO meaningful dental benefits.

Winglet while small do contain fat (skin).  Do watch the consistency of his poop--if too hard, reduce the chicken wing tip.

It is indeed fortunate that Poe adores gizzards; they are one of the hardest foods to chew.

I don't think you need to adjust anything on the days you give the chicken gizzards/hearts, chicken wing. Maybe on the days you give the hearts, give less canned but that also depends on how much you are giving, how many ounces of the hearts/gizzards. If it is just a small amount then consider it an added treat and a healthy one at that.

Thank you for the advice. Good to know I don't have to make an adjustment to their usual diet.

Ritz, Mr Poe and Domino are approximately 2 years 5 months old, very active indoor-only boys. They each are fed 1/2 of a 3 ounce can and 1/2 Tablespoon dry at each of 4 meals / day. I don't think of the dry as "food" as much as I consider it a "treat." The ingredients seem much better than the labels I've read on the Temptations packages, for example. I suppose I could cut it down to 1 teaspoon / meal but that's really a small decrease.

Mist, my 17 year old lady cat is fed only wet food.

Again, thanks for the help.
