Mickey, was fine this morning and I just got home from work and now he's not fine.  Although I did notice a couple of times his hind feet would slide forward while he ate.  So I got him a feeding dish that is lifted up off the floor about 4 inches, I thought that would be better for him. His pancreas is no longer inflamed and he has been eating good. So my vet started him back on the Methimazole in a lower dose, he gets 1.25 mg every 12 hours and he's been on it since Feb. 6th and has not lost his appetite like the first time he was on it. Mickey's, been doing very well until tonight when I got home from work and he didn't meet me at the door like he always does. He was lying in his carrier that's on the floor and he does go in it a lot.  But, this time it's different, he wouldn't come out for his dinner as he normally would do.

He now keeps shaking his hind legs one and than the other, there's nothing in between his toes, and picked him up and cuddled with him but he wanted to get down and he keeps looking for a place to hide and his hind legs keep shaking. I have no idea what this all means but I did call the vet and the doctor's office is closed but the receptionist was still there so I made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. I'm so scared what is happening to him and right now I'm in a flood of tears.  Right now Mickey, is hiding behind a chair in my front room and won't even come out to eat. I do know that he ate earlier since the canned food I left for him has been eaten.

Has anyone here ever had this happen to their cat, hiding and their hind legs shaking like it's a nervous condition?  I just don't know what to do for him tonight.

If he were mine, I would take him to an emergency clinic.  I know diabetic cats can develop neuropathy of the hind legs and the symptoms are like what your kitty has.

How old is he? Diabetes can hit at any time, but middle age seems to be the most common time.

Do you have an e vet in your area?  My vet has an emergency line and he will come in after hours to deal with emergencies.

I feel your frustrations as these things have happened to me too....cats always have issues on holidays and after hours.  The fact your kitty is hiding is a clear indication he is feeling un well.

Please try to find an e vet and please let us know when you can how he is doing.  You are in  my thoughts.

I was thinking neuropathy too. I would definitely either call your vet back and find out who is on call for emergencies or go to an ER center. All paws crossed for him, and you.

I took Mickey, to see his vet this afternoon and she did a blood test on him to see if the Methimazole he's getting for his thyroid is helping him.  The results for his blood test was very good, his levels are in the normal range. I'm so very happy about that
.  As for his hind legs, the doctor checked the pulse in both his legs and said, that one of his legs has a much lower pulse than the other. She said, that in cases with hyperthyroidism it does effect the heart and what Mickey is experiencing is small blood clots going into his legs, so she wants him on a blood thinner.  She told me to give him 1/4 tablet of Bayer Children's Aspirin once every 3 days. He's so much better this evening since I gave him the aspirin about 3 hours ago. So now he will be on a 1/4 tablet (1.25mg) of the Methimazole every 12 hours and 1/4 tablet (20mg) of the children's aspirin once every 3 days.

Since his Thyroid level is in the normal range now he will need a blood test every 3 months to monitor his thyroid level.  Will not need to see the doctor unless of course if he has other issues.

Just thinking about last night...I can't believe the difference in him. I'm also remember how I was crying like a baby with worry about him, and now he's fine. Things like this sure can stress a person out!!   I'm so very glad he's doing better, at least for now...we can relax.

Thanks for the update! So glad he is feeling better. I'm glad it wasn't too late, you were lucky. Remember to give the 1/4 baby aspirin with food. Never on an empty stomach.

:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: Mickey :heart3:

For anyone reading this thread: never give a cat aspirin unless it has been specifically prescribed by your cat's attending vet, after an exam and blood work.

Yes, I did feed him prior to giving him the aspirin.  I also did question my vet cause I was very nervous about giving him the aspirin but she said, for Mickey this is okay. I can't call it being lucky, only cause I truly believe in prayer, and I had Mickey put on a prayer chain and the Good Lord watched over Mickey through the night.  Also thank you everyone for all your good thoughts and good vibes that also helps.
