No, not Christmas. :lol3: Here in the US it is tax season. :cringe:

Every year I say I am going to be more organized and start a folder to put tax info in during the year. That only lasts for a few months. :lol3: Come February I have to dig through lots of paperwork to find what I need. I did that last week, gave the paperwork work to my tax preparer and my taxes have been filed. :)

So, are you organized when it comes to your tax paperwork? Do you do your own taxes or have someone else prepare them? Do you wait until the last minute?

Rick does ours. He always waits until the last minute because we always end up owing money.

Our's were filed Jan 30, 12:01am,  We normally get a refund and are starving by the end of January we file ASAP. My MIL has her own tax business and lets DH file with her program so it doesn't cost us anything, but ours are so simple I could do them. We don't qualify for any deductions so its pretty straight forward. I used to do my own taxes every year, but if DH wants to do it, more power to him!

I do ours this is the first time we owe.  I am waiting to the end to file them as no rush.

We have an accountant because our taxes are a little complicated filing both U.S. and Canadian. But my husband gets all the stuff together - he does the taxes sometimes if it's pretty straightforward that year.

Looks like I'm filing taxes for my work, though, the Treasurer of the organization is on his way out and does very little; I recently noticed he's having all the tax documents sent to me.

Did ours early this year and already got our refund. Ours is simple but we have H&R Block do it. I want nothing to do with doing a tax return - I hate anything to do with numbers.

Larry does ours. :lol3: We did have them prepared for a few years when Larry had a business from home plus his regular job. It was too complicated. Now he takes care of the taxes and is quite organized about it. :)

I'm in the same boat as Cat - I have to file twice. I do the U.S. taxes and then give DH a copy so that he can do our German taxes.

We pay someone to do it. My husband works in another state than the one we live in which makes a mess at tax time. I am happy to say mine are all done until next year and we actually get money back this year from one the states we usually pay through the nose too thanks to some recent changes,

Mine are ridiculously easy (one job, one bank account, mortgage interest, some donations, that's it!), so I just run through TurboTax free edition.

I tweak my tax withholdings so I get a small refund but not too much. Don't want them keeping my money interest-free! But I would also prefer not to pay so I'll let them play with a little bit ;).

Thanks for putting Christmas music in my head Karen!  Or should I say MORE of it because DD has been singing Jingle Bells all week.

DH does our taxes.  He keeps thins well organized all year so it's pretty simple.  Since we had our kids we started getting money back instead of owing.  It's been nice!

I try to be organized.  I'm better than I was last year.

I think we get to deduct some of dd's college expenses.  We got a statement back from her school- we pay them about $5K/ semester for everything that loans, scholarships etc don't cover.  And we do still get to deduct dd as a dependant even though she's 19 now.  We normally file early.  But since the IRS had issues b/c of the whole "fiscal cliff" deal, we needed to wait to make sure that dd's college expenses were still deductable, and I think it's this week that we can finally file.

And here's a rant.  Last year we paid $600 for her to take 2 college level English classes Senior year while she was still in high school.  She liked it b/c it got her out of her college comp class this year, and she says there's girls on her dorm floor who HATE that class with a passion.  But- we couldn't deduct that money.  Why?  Because she's not a college student- she's in high school.  SIGH.

We haven't owed anything for a long time.  The only year we owed was when dh changed IRA's over to Roth IRA's.  Years ago

Dd has to file too. She made about $350 last year at a week long temp job.  She's not going to get much back, but to a college kid, $20 is a LOT of money
Hers are going to be really simple.  In fact, simple enough that I'd kind of like to have her do them. I have to sit on her to balance her checkbook (it's a good thing she has few expenses at school).  Maybe she'll be motivated to do them with the prospect of having money
