My 10 month old cat merlin is hardly eating or drinking from his water bowl and food bowls. I've tried him on different brands of cat food pouches/tins gravy/jelly and also on dry food - he tends to eat more if its fish flavored in gravy. I always leave him biscuits to snack on throughout the day and he always has fresh clean water. He has a very slim build and is eating less than one pouch a day. I am worried that hes under eating and whether i should take him to see the vet. Hes an indoors cat, me and my partner give him tonnes of love and affection. Please help/give advice, thank you.

Not eating or drinking is usually a sign that something is seriously wrong. I would take him to the vet. How many ounces is one pouch of food? Is this new behavior and if so, when did it start?

Sorry Merlin isn't eating a lot.  Sounds like he doesn't feel well.

How much biscuits (dry cat food?) does he eat?  Can you tell if he has lost weight?  Any other changes, like activity level.  At 10 months old, Merlin should have LOTS of energy and want to play a lot.

I'd take him to the vets.

PS;  is he neutered or was he recently?

vball91  - The pouches are 100g each. Hes gradually eating less and less, he was on 2 1/2 - 3 pouches a day plus biscuits and treats

Ritz - I leave him a small bowl full of biscuits which he nibbles on. I can tell hes lost weight on his face.. Some times he looks a little depressed and sleeps a lot, however, he was playing with his toy mouse and on his scratching post for a good hour earlier. Hes very needy and sleeps in bed with us pretty much every night. He isnt neutered. He lives indoors, he isnt that bothered about going outside. He had a trip to the vets a few months ago because he fell out of an upstairs window, he was weighed then and got the all clear..

Since he isn't neutered, the fact that he isn't interested in getting out is also alarming; at 10 months he should be looking for love 24x7.  Yeowling, even spraying.

Agree with the other posters; he needs to be seen by a vet.  How long between the time he fell out of the window and when you started to notice  a change in his behavior?

And, cats are notorious for hiding pain.

I would take him to the vet asap. Not eating enough can be serious for cats. It can cause liver damage.

I hope he's feeling better soon. He's adorable.

I think I'm going to take him to the vets tomorrow. He is encouraged to go outside more, if he goes outside he doesn't like it if I'm not stood at the door watching him play. He fell out of the window about 4 months ago and I've noticed the change in his behavior during the past 2 - 3 weeks. Hes currently sat in my lap purring as I'm typing this :( I hope hes okay!!

I hope he's okay too
. For now getting him to eat anything extra would be good. Even extra treats. Will he eat something with a strong smell like tuna? It's not a good everyday food but for now you want to keep him eating. Some cats love human baby food. The kind made with meat only. No onions or garlic. You could try that.

Overweight cats are more at risk of liver problems than a thin cat but it's a good idea that you are taking him in tomorrow.

Sending you good vibes for his check-up

It doesn't seem like he has a cold. As i mentioned earlier he seems a little depressed at times and sleeps a lot :( I'm thinking of getting another cat to keep him company but id need to get him neutered first. I gave him a little tuna the other day and he ate it, but obviously that isn't for long term. My skinny little guy
 Thanks for every ones concern

Do take him to the vet asap.  His behaviour is not really a good sign.  He may have an undiagnosed injury or something that has arisen since he fell out of the window.
