I hope you have started a cat page for your furbaby so you can post lots of photographs in it and tell everyone all about her!
I love looking at everyone's cat pages and the more grey cats there the better.

I also think our cat has some RB in him as well. We got him at a shelter so definitely no pure RB but he has characteristics. His eyes are green but ringed with yellow. Long striped tail. Mauve paws. His coat is longish in places but color seems right. Sweet disposition. Super smart, loves to play fetch, not very vocal and plays very much like a dog with our kids. Most people cant believe he's a cat! He loves to eat as well and might just wander up to you on the coach and take something right from the plate in your hand if your not careful!

I haven't been on in a while but just had to post a pic..she's almost 10 months old now and just beautiful
I got to look again on this thread as I would answer to Mich here above.  And saw agains hers face.   NOW its really Russian alike, including the oblong green eyes.  They shall be oblong, in the scandinavian /FIFe  description.    Round in the american types...

I would like to see the profile of her face, the forehead-nose line...

Yeah, quite a look alike.  Rather of the british  GCCF fype, I think, but still.   And also a good appetite!    :)

How old is he?

He's 16 months. Born in April 2013. Adopted July.
I see.  I was thinking if young, the tail stripes may be "ghost markings" disappearing when adult.  But if they are still clearly visible in an adult, its counted as a fault in a pure bred RB, if there are any ambitions to participate in Shows..

As you know when he is born, do you know his history?  You got him from a shelter, but still... You know perhaps his mom or litter-mates?  Their looks?

But  somewhat striped tail is no proof he isnt RB - these RB I know are everyone of Show quality.  And IRL not all pure breds are of show quality...  Also, the overall standard of the swedish RB is high, and we have none or very few BYBs massproducing kittens for the profit of it.  Even if some breeders were small and rather amateurish.

So,  unless there are proofs of something else,  like differently colored litter-mates, he may still be a RB - surely of pet quality, but still.   :)

Now, there are quite a lot of  moggies domestics who do looks more or less alike a russian blue - but it is not fun to give this answer and hereby shrug off the question.   :)

Here is another picture. His tail rings are not prominate but you can see them at certain angles and in certain light. His litter mates were all the same just varying sizes and colors of grey. Even though not a pure he's a great cat!

RB or not, they are beautiful. 30 years ago a friends Siamese paired with an unknown male and had a litter of kittens, most looked like Siamese with tabby markings, but one was a solid silver gray color, I chose her. Her name was Mandy and she looked like the pictures of your Blue beauties. She lived 15 years and died of cancer. She was one of the sweetest, prettiest cats I've ever had.

I would like to explaim something and please pay attention.

"Russian Blue's" are the result of people taking blue/grey cats (like yours) who are naturally blue/grey, and mating them with other blue/grey cats who have same qualities. They do this until the bloodine and genetics are basically guarenteed to pass on.

In other words, any one who has a blue/grey cat, has the same potential genes as a russian blue and they share the same ancestry.

People simply make a profit off selling them as "purebreed" that u wont find anywhere else.

I have found blue/grey cats wondering my neighborhood with more beauty and elegance then russian blues that ppl pay a lot of money for.

So just because its mot classified as russian blue doesnt mean its inferior.

As a matter of fact yours is superior because its gene pool is not limited and has variation.

I do hear you. Many shelters, including the one where I got my blue DMH girl from, advertise any blue cat as a Russian Blue cross. Which is not exactly true as this implies one of her parents were purebred RB which is extremely unlikely.

It's not just the fact that Russian Blues are "blue" - so are the Korat and Chartreux breeds but they look quite different and of course will have breed specific traits.

Most ethical breeders are not in it for profit and just break even. They do it because they enjoy what they do and are trying to improve their line and the breed as a whole. Not sure if you were targeting all breeders in your comment or just backyard breeders or shelters.

Well Im not really "targeting" anyone lol. I just want people to realize that Russian Blues never were "purebreed" naturally.

They had to start the breeding with cats who naturally had the traits that Russian Blues generally have today from selective breeding.

Which makes my point. that even though the random grey cat with green eyes from the shelter or that u see in the street isnt a "purebreed" Russian Blue it is peobably the same type of cat which was used to START the Russian Blue Breeding.

I wrote it--and, yes, I do love words. I'm not a professional writer, but I've been a bookworm since I chewed on my first board book as a toddler!

Hello, I have been reading all the posts with interest and have the same question as everyone else. My kitten is around 5 months old, does she look like a Russian Blue? I have read the personality of a Russian Blue and it is very fitting with my kitten. The features of my cat also look Russian Blue but not quite the emerald green eyes which I read they are supposed to start to develop at 4 months.
I look forward to any informed opinions :-)
