Over the river and through the woods...
So, last night I decided to make Swiss steak (cubed steak with onions, green peppers, tomatoes and gravy). So I browned the steak nicely, added the onions and a can of diced tomatoes, grabbed a bag of frozen peppers from the freezer and dumped it in still frozen. Put the lid on to let it slow cook and went about my business.

About 20 minutes later I figured the steaks needed flipped so I lifted the lid....and my eyes started watering as toxic fumes hit my face. I couldn't breathe!! I checked the tomato can, and it didn't say anything about nuclear waste. Then, I checked the bag the peppers were in. In large letters (that I didn't see) was "HOT". THEN I remembered the bag of hot peppers (jalapenoes, cherry and god knows what else) a co-worker gave me last summer that I was going to use sparingly in chile and forgot about. So yes, I dumped a total of 8 or 9 hot peppers onto the steak.

So, I tried to get out as many peppers as I could find, dumped more "regular" green peppers in and hoped DH wouldn't mind a bit of "kick" in the steak. Yep, 15 more minutes and it was still nuclear, so I added parmasan cheese, cheadder cheese, tomato sauce, rice..anything I could think of to try to calm it down.

DH comes in from outside and stops. His exact words were: "woman, what are you making? Are you trying to kill me?"

Needless to say, he ate a frozen pizza for dinner. I tried some but cried mercy after 5 bites. Honestly, I'm sweating just thinking about it even now.

Lesson of the day: CHECK your ingredients before you add them!

(I can't even feed this to the barn cats! They have strong stomachs but this may make them explode!!!)
