If a man didn't have a wife or children to clean the litter box it wouldn't ever get cleaned.

Just a note that this thread is almost two years old.

I completely disagree with you. I rarely scoop the box. My husband normally does. The only time I do it is when my cat is having some health issues and I want to keep an extra close eye on things.

Perhaps the thread is over 2 years old, but the subject, sadly, is timeless; why a necessary cleaning job should be gender-based is beyond me.  In my family, it never has been.

I just have a very lazy husband and he refuses to clean it so I;m the only one left to do it. The household chores should be equal. Who agrees ?

My bf doesn't know how to cover the cat litter he makes a mess of it every time which gets me mad cause he wakes me up. For example we switched her food on her without warning cause the othe cat food we couldn't find but she likes this one better I will keep it with this one. But back to the question how in the world can I train my bf on how to do the catlittter when he was never raised with a cat in the house only dogs and I was raised with both
Whose cat is it? I think only the owner should be cleaning the litter box.

Then he should be helping. Why dont you guys split chores? If he hates the litter box, maybe he can take over feeding, and grooming. Its a tough situation because we cant force people to be fair. This is happening to me right now, as i am dealing with an irresponsible pet owner.

I feel the chores should be shared no matter who's cat is using it. Thunder and Bella use both of the boxes I have.

My view is that yes, we share chores but each does what they're better at doing.

I do things I enjoy, such as cooking, and those I don't care for as much, such as cleaning and laundry. Cat care is on my "to do" list. Obviously if I'm not home he takes care of these things.

What does he do? Cuts trees, makes firewood, stacks it outdoors. Keeps the basement wood rack filled. Moves wood from basement to upstairs wood rack. He estimates that - moving wood from here to there, outdoors to indoors, downstairs to upstairs - he's moving 54 tons of wood every year. At this time of year he shuttles cars to bottom of driveway in snowy weather, brings them back up when it's cleared. Handles financial matters.

He could do what I do. I could move wood but doubt my ability to fell a tree. I write checks but find the rest of money matters boring.

So yes, we share chores but each of us does different ones.

Did you tell him? he needs more practice and he'll see it, it's one of those things that if you don't see a problem with the way you do it you'll keep doing it that way. Until he realizes it himself, you'll have to put up with it or do it yourself.

That's how it is in our house, too.

What he is doing is that he actually touches the poop when it is fresh with the litter he makes a mess on the pooperscooper cause he puts the pooper scooper on the poop instead of just the litter and she seems to only do it during the day and not at night when we are asleep. She is a strange cat but back to what I was saying he doesn't know how to cover her poop without touching it with the scooper. I have tried to watch him when he does it and it looks like to me when he puts the litter ontop of the poop he actually puts the scooper in the poop instead of huvering it. When I try to show him that you need to hover it he says the smell is to bad for him to go over there so should I just do it all myself instead of him trying to help he is getting on my nerves with it and I just want my tabby baby to be in a stress free as possible inviroment.
If he is mostly used to dogs maybe you can rub his face in the mess and put newspaper down where messes are allowed? He maybe would understand that language? :) Otther than that I suppose it is rare for a human being to do anything well that they hate doing if love is not motivating it. The more he loves the cat the better he will clean that box.
