Hi all, I'm very new to this site, been researching a lot on pregnant cats & your site is the best. So my cat is pregnant, she is a year & 1/2 old & I think she conceived a week or 2 before Christmas Day as that was when I seen her & my male cat start to mate ( before I get called irresponsible, I tried to keep them separated as much as I could & I did have them both booked in too be spayed on 4 occasions but the vets let me down on 3 occasions & the forth me & my partner was ill) they have already got loving homes awaiting them, all to family, we all love cats & they are (mummy & daddy) getting done as soon as possible). So she is huge, I can see & feel the babies kicking her actively, I am all prepared for the arrival but I'd like some advice on when you guys think the big day is! :-) this is willow!! xxx

Add 65 days from the day they did mated first time. So you will get a rough but OK  time-table....

You also usually feel the kittens move from about 2 weeks before the delivery.

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!.

wow she looks like mine about a week from giving birth. i could feel her kittens moving about 3 weeks before she gave birth. then what i thought was the kittens moving was contractions that would make a really weird wiggle in certain spots.
:-) you may have a pretty good sized litter on the way. mine got pregnant sometime before november 30th. and gave birth 3 days ago. but i think she was late (also her kittens seem to be advanced in some areas (such as purring and strength, and size).
:-) congrats, and im excited for you and your mommy to be!

Be sure to have the male neutered ASAP, and even if he's neutered before the babies come, keep him away from the female until she's spayed! Females can get pregnant again very soon after giving birth, and recently neutered males can retain sperm in their tubes and still get girls pregnant for a while.

I would look for another vet PDQ, and preferably one with more than one vet in the practise.  And please get the boy done ASAP and keep them separated until she has been spayed.  Keep her in a separate room with the door shut.  If you have household members who have trouble remembering that read them the riot act.  If there are tiny hands at work, put a latch on too high for them to reach.

Hi, thanks Saphris25 & stefanz for the comments, much appreciated. I find it very funny that people are that willing to go about spaying & neutering, if I was a breeder of a ragdoll or a breed cat, would I be getting the same comments? I don't think so, I'm not getting on to anyone but I think it's absurd when people give other people lectures but there are people out there breeding cats of a popular breed, when there are thousands of cats out there needing homes, just because they aren't a breed. Me & my family have been rescuing cats for over 40 years, always having around 3-4 cats at time, those cats that no one wants because they are old, or have health problems, or need a lot of TLC for them to restore their trust in human kind again, AND there are people breeding left right & centre because they've got a name, stupid. I get keeping the good gene pool & keeping the breed alive etc, but keep them instead of selling them for £500 plus. YES I know I've made a mistake & there's no excuse but its happened and I'm taking responsibility for them, all of them are going to family & if there's more then I expected I will be keeping them myself and giving them the best home possible. My cats are my life I love them dearly & loved each & every rescue cat I've ever had the same, even when they scratch you, bite you, meow all night, all the thousands of pounds spent in medication etc. So if its all the same to you I'd much prefer support for my mummy & daddy to be rather then comments about been spayed/neutered!!

Hi and welcome to TCS. We are very happy to have you here and I am sure you will find support and advice. As this is a spay/neuter encouraging site, it is inevitable you will get some comments, but from what you say, we are all on the same side. Accidents do happen - I had a cat years ago who got pregnant while waiting for her spay appointment - she managed to get out a 4 inch crack in a second floor window, fell onto concrete and vanished. I found her three days later in a neighbour's garden with a broken leg but pregnant. I dread to think what she had been through.

But as for your soon-to-be momma, one reason for neutering the tom now and keeping him away from the mother and her kittens, is that he may hurt the kittens in an attempt to mate again with the female. Some females do come into heat very quickly after birth, and even if she doesn't, the tom could kill the kittens in an attempt to bring her back into heat. This is unfortunately Nature at work - he does not know they are his kittens, he wants to pass his own genes on and so will do anything to mate. Not all toms will do this but it is a real risk. On the other hand, other males (more likely to be neutered ones) love kittens and will help a mother with the work of washing and playing with them. I apologise if you know this already, but sometimes threads are read by others who might be searching for information.

Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy, and we all look forward to pictures in due course of a healthy brood of kittens.

Hi jennyranson,
Thank you for your kind words. I understand about the spray/neutering, I am fully with it myself, but yes accidents do happen, I just don't like the way people go on about it when they wouldn't do it with a breeder of a popular cat. My male (diesel) is booked in for a week on Wednesday. Thank you again :-D. I don't mean for the comments to come across bad, just it gets my goat up as I've seen & heard it I the past, high class cats been breed & breed and seen as a good thing, & I think about all those little innocent ones in shelters, it breaks my heart. I shall keep everyone updated on mommy, daddy & little ones :-D. Xx
