Your kitty is beautiful! What is her name?

Some cats learn to open doors and cabinets, some don't. It doesn't have much to do with the breed in my experience, more like how much they want to go through the door or get into the cabinet.

All three of ours open doors, but Sparkle sometimes does it backwards and jumps on the door the wrong way and closes herself in the room. Tophel likes to open the cabinet door where the cat food is stored, and then he lets it bang closed. He repeats as necessary until someone gets up to feed him.

Most cats are domestic shorthairs, no breed. She's beautiful! I've always loved solid white kitties. As for opening cabinets, this has nothing to do with breed, but more to do with individual personality. Some cats do, and some cats don't :D. Also depends how much they want what's on the other side ;).

Ah, it was she who did played the title role of Duchesse, in Aristocats?

Now, having Thomas O´Malley as her particular friend, I dont think she need open any more doors, he will do it for her as soon as she wish it!   :)

She is a gorgeous kitty. looks like she has beautiful pale green eyes too.

But believe me, don't wish for her to even get the idea of opening doors and cabinets into her pretty head.

I had one of THOSE cats. The devious feline could get into and out of almost everything. We had to put childproof locks on cupboards etc. And (after he thwarted several other measures ) we had to put a padlock on the fridge!
At cat shows he saw it as a challenge to get out of different kind of benching cages, one time strolling up to introduce himself to the Regional Director, another time stealing a half eaten hamburger (and making himself sick since he had IBD) I had to put a padlock on the show cage too.

Huh, the cat opens the cabinet from the top. I've never seen a cat do it that way. Christy, my own cabinet-opening cat, paws at the bottom of the door until it swings open a little way, then gets her paw in the crack and pushes it the rest of the way. She can open any door that way as long as it isn't latched--the knobs on my doors are too slick for her to get hold of them and she's not long enough that she can really reach the knobs. If I had doors with handles instead of knobs, I bet she'd eventually learn those, though. She does manage to paw open any door that has been left unlatched, and can push back a sliding door if it's light or well-mounted enough to require only a seven-pound cat to get it to move. Luckily she hasn't yet figured out drawers, so I don't worry about her getting at the steak knives in the kitchen. She also can't manage the refrigerator door, which is magnetically closed and too heavy for her to budge. I did however once find a friend's cat in the refrigerator. I suspect that the door had been improperly closed, the cat had gotten in, and the door had swung shut on him. I don't think he got left in there too long, but he was pretty happy to get out. As a result I am now very careful to make sure my refrigerator is firmly closed.

If you have a door-opening cat, it's smart to make sure your cleaning supplies and medicines are tightly closed, and that there are no heavy things that could fall out of a cabinet and onto the cat.

HarleyDiva -- Oh yes! very much like that! LOL that is a funny video. Yes my other cats would hover nearby and wait for the specialist to open things. You have a nice looking animal family and WOW your beautiful lilac point boy looks a lot like my own lilac point . But he wasn't the one who opened the fridge etc. it was a wily old seal point. However the lilac point has taken to opening the closet and having parties in there knocking everything off the shelves. ahhh life with meezers. Or with any clever, curious, determined cats.

The bottom cabinets get opened from the top, per the video example.  The top cabinets get opened from the bottom, via the "stick you paw in" method.  He occasionally gets a drawer open, but more often, he goes into the cabinet underneath the drawer, then reaches up and scoops out what he wants.  The only safe place is the dresser in the bedroom....the drawers are heavy enough he can't get them open.  So.....the cats treats, or anything else I don't want him to get to, are stored next to my underwear.  He knows exactly where they are....and screams at me to open the drawer every time I walk into the bedroom....lol.

I have one cat who opens the bathroom cabinet, and all mine will open doors if they are not latched (they are littermates) but I have one who actually uses the doorknob to do this:

Too funny! My cat knows the doorknob is the answer, but she just looks at me, then the doorknob, then back at me, until I open the door for her.

Both of my girls can open pretty much anything. Cabinets are a piece of cake, whether they are the smooth kind or the ones with handles or knobs, just grab it with their paws and yank it open. They can both also open and close any drawer they want to, we've often found them snuggled up inside my underwear drawer.
the older cat can open any door, even the front/back doors. We have to keep the deadbolt latched to keep her inside.

she got mad at that, and decided to learn how to open windows. Several of ours in the house slide open sideways, and she grabs the little latch with her paw and pulls it open, so we've had to take to locking those as well. it's amazing what a kitty can do when they make up their minds. As for refrigerators, pantry door, cabinet with her kitty food, even the bathroom...forget it. They go where they want lol.

If she does get into the cabinets, just make sure to store any cleaning supplies or chemicals in a place she can't get too. You might consider child proof latches for the cabinets, they sell some fairly inexpensive ones that work great. Beautiful kitty by the way!

Thunder  opens the cabinets and explores more than Bella does. But when Thunder is in there Bella sits outside the door and waits for her to come back out to start chasing her.

Bella is 3 yrs and Thunder is 8months
