I was having coffee with a friend, talking about our past travels, and it inspired me to ask the question:

What is your favourite city, and why?

Amsterdam - I've always felt really at home there, although I don't speak Dutch. Always want to send for the cats and just STAY.

It's strange but tulips have always been my favorite flower; I used to draw them all the time (with the long leaves) when I was a kid growing up in Texas. It is far too hot for tulips where I grew up, so it's odd that I loved them so much without ever having seen one.

I don't know if I've traveled enough to have a favorite city! :lol3: I do know that Tokyo is a very clean and well-run city, not a lot of personality though--it's all business. New York is fun, I'd like to spend more free time there (I went there on a bus tour and everything was very scheduled). Omaha is icky, well, has good parts and bad parts like any city, but it's not great on the whole. Minneapolis is nice. LA is crowded and dirty, but then that was when I was a kid so it may have changed by now. San Diego is beachy, a very surfer-dude kind of vibe. Orlando is Disney, all the way :tongue2:. I guess that's about the extent of my city experiences ;).

Salzburg, Austria. Its natural setting is gorgeous, the medieval fortress imposing, the cemeteries (including catacombs) very old and picturesque, while the Gothic and Romanesque churches and the Baroque old town make you feel like you've been transported back to other centuries and ways of life.

I haven't travelled much I've saw a lot of beautiful places in England and Scotland, and I still find Durham and Newcastle to of the most beautiful cities

New York City, Nashville and Sevierville TN, Burlington VT, Grand Junction CO, Niagara Falls NY ...

I haven't been to many non-US cities, and have also been to many that I like. I still have more to explore for sure.

None!  I am not a city girl at all!  I'm not exactly a country girl either; but I hate traffic and crowds.  I'd need a slow paced city to enjoy one at all.  I'd rather take a long walk in the country where I can enjoy some nature!

I've just realised I've asked this question, and am finding it really difficult to answer!  SwampWitch and jcat.. I'm so impressed that you have just one that has made such an impression!

I think if I really had to choose just one it would be my original home town of Hobart, in Tasmania.  It's more a country town than a city, as the State has such a small population.  Hobart is nestled between Mount Wellington and a beautiful harbour, and it has a great 'vibe'.  From my travels, it's so hard, but I loved Oporto (capital of Portugal).

When I think about it, there are so many little towns that just blow me away, more than big cities.. Maybe that can be next Saturday's question

It has to be NYC for me. I've traveled to many places in the world by NYC just does it for me. I love Broadway, Off Broadway, The Village, food, crowds, congestion... ALL of it

I've not been out of the United States, other than to Canada, so I don't feel I can answer this question.

I have to say the city where I live. New York! I've lived here since 1971. I had visited once, in the 60s, and I just knew I would live here one day. As frustrating, and noisy, and annoying as it is, sometimes, I still have the moments of walking down the street and thinking, "Wow. I live in NYC. Awesome." The energy, the life, the character - far outweighs the frustrations I sometimes have with living here..... going on 42 years!

London would be my second choice. :D Or Edinburgh. Love Edinburgh.

I haven't been to many major "cities" unless you count airports. I'm not a real city person. Although, if I had to pick my favorite, it would be Annapolis MD. The harbor and the shops are great and the buildings are beautiful. I would love to go to some European cities, but I probably would spend more time driving through the landscape in search of castles. I have no desire to deal with crowds and traffic.

I don't quite think I'll ever be able to come to grips for a "favorite" city, other than home I guess. Home is where the heart is (at least for me) and I've moved quite a bit.

I lived in another country for almost 5 years and then moved here to Hawaii. Hawaii is amazing. Its kind of like a marriage I guess (from what I've heard since I'm not married), you have to work hard at trying to keep it exciting for you.
