Nice cat, glad she is being better looked after.  Have you wormed her?  I'm sure you have checked for fleas!  More worming is needed once the kittens are 3 weeks or so old, for her and them.  Panacur is safe for young kittens but you have to know how much they weigh to get the dose right.

She could come back into call very soon after having kittens, even though she is nursing them.

And I would let other people meet her, feed her, pet her and play with her.

If you don't have a cheap set of electronic kitchen scales - with a digital read-out in grams - now is the time to get them.  Weighing each kitten once a day at about the same time and recording the results lets you see they are doing OK - they should gain 10g or more most days.  A little weight lose for a day or two after birth is common and the odd day with apparently no gain for a kitten happens, but if none of them are gaining or one is persistantly not gaining there's a problem.

Streeeeetching! She does this ALOT!
Streching a lot isnt really gymnasics, but a friendly greeting.

I suppose she is also yawning a lot, every time you are coming into her room?      :)

Poor girl, still young and perhaps her fourth litter...  Good you are giving her high quality food.

It may be even one of the cases when extra calcium will be good.

Welcome to our Forums!

 Good luck!

Oriental Slave: do I need another wormer on top of the Revolution at this time? I know Revolution takes care of round and hook worms. Is it whipworms and taenia I need to worry about?

I will make sure to have some wormer on hand for the kittens at around 3 weeks. And Nala and the litter will be visiting the vet at around the 6 week mark.

I do have a kitchen scale, as I adopted 2 pregnant guinea pigs many years ago, and I did daily weights on both them and their babies:)

I agree, StefanZ. And I also think that stretching probably feels good to her growing uterus. I know when I was pregnant each time it felt good to get a good stretch;)

Oh, and my 4 children are allowed time every day to pet her and love on her. I just monitor them and keep the time short so as not to tire her out. I think she has been catching up on all the sleep she didn't get as a stray. Just too much DRAMA on the outside, lol!

She has 2 large windows in her room. I keep the blinds up so she can look out. She spends 90% of her time either napping in the window sill or actively watching the outside world. I'm sure she misses it. And possibly her weaned kittens too. Her world has definitely changed...

Thanks everyone for your advice and welcomes!! So glad to be here!

Hi & Welcome to TCS!! It's wonderful you are helping this little momma out! Good luck with everything. I will be reading your
updates.  It will be interesting to hear the rest of the story, of her previous "owner."

Thanks, I just called them and they said the Revolution will suffice until I bring her and the litter in for check-ups.

Set up three more cozy beds, for a total of four areas for her to choose from.I even hung a privacy curtain over one of the ones in the empty closet (no doors on the closet). Watch her end up not using any of them, lol!!

Her previous "owner" said that she gave birth last time in an old mattress that they had just lying in their backyard. She dug out a hole in it and had them in there. Poor things:(

She is now in a 10X10 bedroom that my son only uses to watch cartoons in the afternoons (he won't sleep in there alone). Such a difference from the last litters. I pray that this labor/delivery will be MUCH less stressful than the last ones. In any case, it's her last one!! Yay!

Still no fetal movement, but I'll bet it will start any day now. I'm such an excited expectant "Grandma"!!

kir5tie: the same way THEY have baby after baby and have DCF take them away before they even leave the hospital. It's very sad and pathetic. They have had at least 3 kids that I know of who were removed by authorities within days of birth.

If they can't manage to take care of HUMAN children, why on earth would they take in animal after animal?? All but one of their dogs have been taken by the local pound, due to complaints of them running loose and being un-altered. Sigh.

Updating y'all on my mama cat Nala.
We are now at Day 55/56, and the babies have been moving hard enough for me to feel them for the past few days. Nala is testing out her nesting areas, and her belly is much rounder than before. No milk in yet. I started her on KMR today....she loved it!! My guess is 4 or 5 cooking in there;)
I'll take pics later today for you to see how much she's grown!
Won't be long now.......

Hi Amy.

I really loved hearing about your situation and how well you're treating Nala! I'm in a very similar situation. I've adopted a pregnant cat, and just like your cat she had terrible owners. One difference with my situation is that I have no intention of approaching the family she originally came from. They're drug dealers. Let's leave it at that :D But like you, after she's had her kittens I'll be spaying her and also keeping one of the kittens. And finding great homes for the others.

I think my cat, Fluffers, is about 45 days at the moment, but it's hard to tell. She's really grown the past 3 or 4 days, and she's eating like a maniac. She's also starting doing a lot of stretches today, a lot like you mentioned with yours. I didn't realise it could be pregnancy related.

Today I ordered some KMR in case the kittens need it. But I didn't realise it might be good for a pregnant cat too. Should I give her some in the final week or 2?

Can't wait to see Nala's new arrivals when they get here.

EDIT: Amy, I totally missed your post in my thread the other day. I was just looking at your other posts since you're in the same position as me, and I noticed your reply. Sorry if you thought I ignored your post!

Hi Kris:)
Drug dealers, eh? Well Nala's previous "owners" don't deal drugs....but they definitely DO them:/
We have caught them digging in our dumpster for food in the past. And I think I've opened up a can of worms by taking Nala in. Now the female "owner" is at my door daily, under the guise that she's checking in on Nala. Then she will casually mention that if we have any left-overs from dinner, not to throw them out b/c she and her boyfriend will eat them.
You are very wise to not contact Fluffers' previous "owners"......

What a pregnant cat needs is as much good-quality food as she wants.  Adult cats don't naturally drink milk - humans are the only species where adults do - so I'd concentrate on the food aspect rather than giving her KMR.

She is getting dry and canned kitten food primarily, with a few ounces of KMR twice a day.

I would suggest a near by food bank. Maybe she will leave you alone. That sucks!
