To help with our cat's chlamydia, in addition to antibiotics, we were given a tube of tetracycline eye ointment.  Not only is this incredibly difficult to administer, but Loa (our cat) gets terrified and hides from us afterward.  It is so stressful for not only the cat but us as well.  Any advice!?!

I hear ya, it is very difficult to get a cat used to eye medications. My Perla is a pro now due to her constant herpetic eye needing something. You don't need much of the ointment at all. Most people put in way too much ointment. Just a tiny dot will do. There is no easy way to get them used to getting eye meds other than offering them a VERY VERY special treat afterwards. My cats all know that after I have to pill them or give eye meds they get a very special treat. Also, once they trust that I am not hurting them, they give in a bit. Perla is so good about getting her eye meds now and I always follow up with her absolute favorite treat in the world, Temptations Seafood Medley!!!!! I only give her those after dosing medication. It really does help.

I know of some cats that are so bad for medication, especially eye meds, that they have to towel snug the cat. Just try to remain calm and be quick with dosing. I honestly prefer drops over ointment. Pipsqueak is nearly impossible to get ointment in his eyes. Loa will forgive you!!! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for Loa.

I am in the same position now.  I use my finger it is safer than trying to do it with the tube.  It is a challenge.
