Ok, so I'm fairly frustrated, i posted a little over a week ago about my cat, Toby who I suspect either is pregnant or going through a false pregnancy

I have taken her to the vet twice in the last week or so, the first time I took her we were seen by a fairly young guy who I had never seen there so he must have been new. he felt over toby and even did an ultrasound i guess (he took her in the back) but her belly wasn't shaved and i thought they did that, anyways he said no kittens. So i made plans to keep her on the spay list for the end of the month.

Took her in again this morning and were seen by my favorite vet, all she had to do was feel Toby  and confirmed that she felt atleast 2 kittens. She estimated toby to be around 6 to 7 weeks at this point.

I am utterly confused at this point, got one person telling me no another that I trust saying yes

you guys seem to know a lot about cats, what do you rthink?

not the best picture but i managed to get a picture of one of her nipples while i was rubbing her belly, they were really pink and flaking this morning, plus i didn't think a cats nipples, even a females were supposed to be that big, my one male cat(nuetered BTW) nipples are tiny

problem is i don't feel any babies, but the vet said she *clearly* felt atleast two, shouldn't they be dancing around in there by now?

thanks for any input

You can usually feel them moving for the last 2 weeks, so if not yet, you should be able to tell soon. I'm sure by the end of the month there'll be no confusion. . .:D.

Hello everyone, I wanted to let you all know that Tobys pregnancy is progressing nicely, so it appears as though the second vet was right
tonight for the first time I can actually feel (and even see) the kittens dancing around in her belly, she layed on my lap from a while and I felt the little kicks.

that means she has atleast a week, right?

the only concern I have is that while she eats multiple times a day, she doesn't eat like it seems someone who is pregnant should, there is a local stray that comes by to eat who is also pregnant, and it seems as though she is always at the food I leave for the local strays, until she sees me through the window she skitters off into the woods, but every time I walk by there she is. (and also having been through two pregnant sisters and a pregnant cousins LOL) Toby doesn't eat alot but she certainly isn'y starving, she does sleep a lot though.

Toby being inside kitty, doesnt burn off as much energy as the stray.

And I guess she perhaps gets better food then you leave out for strays? Ie you leave out cheaper sort than for your resident?

Anyway, good you are thinking she must have good food.

Good luck!

No actually, my cats and the strays all get the same food, I feed taste of the wild and blue buffalo all the way around, the strays are spoiled lol. I figure if they catch mice around the house they deserve to eat good food even though they likely eat what they catch as the only one that comes around consistantly is the big tom with a a broken foot and recently, the pregnant momma. otherwise I just leave food out for who ever might be passing by.

which actually started several years ago with me feeding a stray momma dog and her puppies until I noticed cats coming around and finishing off what the dogs didn't eat and when the momma dog and puppies all disapeared (I assume taken to the shelter) the cats kept coming around and since the shelter here won't even come for cat calls (and if they do they usually just put them to sleep as there is no TNR organizations around here) the cats are welcome to stay.

Tobys appetite seems to have increased the last day or so, the babies are still dancing around in there, it's quite funny, sometimes I'll see on kick really hard and Toby will look down at her belly, and I swear a look of happiness comes across her face. maybe I'm imagining it, but she is a pretty maternal cat.

I dont remember if you said anything about TNR earlier. But I do hope you ARE doing it, neutering all them who do come to you?  Yourself or together with some organisation?

That is the trick, to handle the problem with homeless, if you cant adopt them all.

To give the hungry food is nice, but it becomes excellent first when you do also have a plan with it, TNR and or adoption.

If not, the risk is very big the problem just goes bigger and bigger. They come to you and multiply themselves.

Good luck!

I live in a fairly rural area (nearest neighbor about about 5 or 600 acres away, don't really know but you can't see their from my house and it takes about 10 minutes to walk there lol) so there really isn't anything in the way of a TNR program here, our shelter won't even take in feral cats, and if they do they put them down the same day.

the cats are fairly dispersed as far as that goes, there are around 5 or 6 strays which visit regularly (and by that I mean *maybe* once every 2 weeks) the big tom with the broken foot comes around every other day or but I don't suspect he can travel very far (I did trap him and took him to be nuetered a couple years ago) glad I did too, vet said he was an old boy back then of atleast 10-12 years (about 3 years ago) around 12-14 years old at this point. and the stray/feral momma cat who is fast as a bullet and has learned to avoid traps, don't wanna stress her now anyway with her being so close.

Toby has been looking mighty uncomfortable throughout the day today, she wants to lay on her side but I can tell it's uncomfortable so much of the day when she's wanted to sleep she's been crouching, she's also been licking her lady bits a frequently as well.

I rehomed one of the male kittens today as in the last couple days toby had been getting rather impatient with them, growling and hissing at them much like a mother cat would. plus they are just getting far too big and I was afraid they'd hurt her as up until a few days ago she hadn't had the heart to flat out wail on them like the did on wed. when she gave one of the boys a right good clobbering lol.

I don't think I can wait much longer =O
