Hello

I am one of these people who feed my cats at night only when the sun goes down, and my boys know this and hover about 15 mins before it goes down.

I leave dry food on the floor for my cats to eat, else they bring in mice, rats, birds and one time a fox.

I have noticed that cat food does not contain "meat", its like 4%. This is poor, I would prefer to get some chicken wings debone and cook with rice or some other bulking thing that I know is good for my cats and they get real meat, and a good meal.

So, does anyone know any recipes for cat food?

Sure, you can make your own cat food, or, more accurately, feed your cat real food; I guess you don't "make" meat :tongue2:. Check out the raw feeding forum for more info (raw is easier than homecooked, since cooking destroys some nutrients so you would have to supplement). Here's a thread with all the info in one place: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/240809/raw-feeding-resource-thread

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
The only cooked cat food recipe I know of is this one: http://www.ibdkitties.net/Homecooked.html

I feed my cats real food. I feed prey model raw (which is basically raw meat, bones and organs in certain percentages. It's balanced with raw egg yolks, a few canned sardines for the omegas and vitamin D weekly, and 500mg of salmon oil daily). If you're in the US, there are a LOT of commercial raw food options, both freeze dried (more expensive, but just add water to rehydrate), and frozen. Or you can "make" your own, as Willowy pointed out. :) My cats eat chicken, turkey, whole quail, rabbit, beef, pork, venison, green tripe, goat, llama, hearts, gizzards, liver, kidney, pancreas....

Since your cats already hunt some of their food, you're in a terrific position to feed them raw! Some cats raised on canned or kibble only don't see anything else as food.

Definitely check out the resources sticky under raw feeding subforum for articles and recipes.

And, there is a third option with raw feeding:  whole prey, that is, whole (dead) mice, guine pigs, rabbits.  Hare Today is one such company that sells whole prey.

And, ditch the kibble.

(They brought home a FOX????!!!!)

As far as I know, my cats don't eat the animals they bring in. If one of my cats do eat something, they throw it back up within minutes.

As for the fox, all I know it was a medium sized one, no head and still warm when I had to clean up the blood and stuff.

Ritz saw a fox from the safety of a screened window, the Fox was about six feet away.  She wanted to become "one" with the screen, she was so captivated.

I told her Charlie the Chipmunk could be her BFF, but that Foxy was on the wrong side of the tracks and she couldn't see him again.

Luckily, she's listened....

PS: cats bringing their owners prey/food is a high compliment.

I think my cats tell me that I forgot to feed them, so they bring me (food/gifts) as a warning lol - Dont forget to feed me again else ill bring in more.

The thing is I have 4 cats, if fed not a single gift - which is great, however if food runs out or I forgot to feed them, all 4 go out and get me a gift, even if there is plenty of food downstairs lol.
