Would you go on a cruise?

We've been on around 35 cruises and nothing will ever stop us from going on more. It's by far the best vacation you could possibly have. Any disaster can happen, whether it be ship, airline, car, resort, etc. But when you think of all the cruises that go out the rate of disaster is low.

We love Princess - but Carnival for he last few years has been just great for us. You don't feel anything on the sea and it's like being in a luxury hotel, only on the water. Completely relaxing, pampered to no end, and price-wise it's best deal for a vacation.

I'd rather not. It's the idea of being out in the ocean with no land in sight.....frankly, it scares the heck out of me.

That being said, I have a feeling I'll be going on a cruise at some point. It's something Rick really wants to do.
Pam I know you won't go on a plane and you don't need to go on a ship if you don't want to go.  Rick will understand, I'm sure.  If you get on that ship and you're afraid of something, there's no turning back.

Some people love going on a cruise but let's face it, it's not for everybody.

I do not think I would want to ever go on a cruise ship. I am very claustrophobic and knowing I am stuck on the ship (no matter how large it is) with no way to get off of my own free will, freaks me out a bit. I could do it, but why would I if I think I would be anxious the whole time. Also, I am very sensitive to motion and most boat rides I get very ill. I know those huge ships don't move much, but I bet ya I could feel it. Then I would be an anxious, nervous, seasick wreck. Nope, I won't do it :lol3:

I have no interest in going on a cruise (my husband, either). I just hope we don't get invited to a wedding or something that is on a cruise ship where we have to go. I like boats just fine, but stuck with so many people in one spot for any length of time just sounds like a kind of nightmare.

When my husband and I travel, we like to explore on our own and aren't interested in mingling and meeting other travelling couples, we just want to be together, just us.

I mentioned this to dh once.  He told me that after 2 Med deployments in the Navy he had no interest in going on a cruise either
Lately though, his attitude has changed and he said he'd consider one.

Though he wants to do Disney without the kids
That would be his ideal vacation.

Cheryl
Cheryl, my dh said the same thing! He said the only thing he would consider would be a Disney Cruise with my son

We never go on a vacation without him anyway so he said that would be ideal as well.

Has anyone ever gone on a Disney cruise and did you and kids enjoy it?

I'm likely to never go on a cruise for a few reasons.

1.  I can't swim and am afraid of deep water

2.  A cruise ship is like being at a hotel resort, only you are trapped and surrounded by ocean at times

3. When they go into port, you don't really have a chance to see much of anything, which isn't so good if you haven't been to that destination before and want to take in the sites at a leisurely pace and linger there if you want to.

But the big reason is that I'm afraid of water.

Also, the medical care on ships is not all that great.  And with my health, I want to make sure that I have access to proper health care.

Despite what's happened in the news recently, I still love cruises and I would go on another one again! I love the water, and find the cruises to be really enjoyable; I've been on two and both were nice. That being said, both cruises that I went on were from Carnival and left out of New Orleans ("Holiday" was one, and I can't remember what the other ship was named). Since Carnival has had quite a number of issues lately, I think I'd try a different cruise line with higher ratings.

(For those of you worried about motion sickness, I'll say this much: I have severe Vertigo, so before I left for either cruise I went to my ENT, and he adjusted my medications so that I wouldn't have too many issues. It helped a lot! (Sea Bands work well in addition to that too )

I love to cruise, so much so that I got married on a cruise ship! We took family and friends for a seven day wedding cruise. It was one of the best memories.

I have been on many cruises and wouldn't hesitate to go on one again. Infact we are looking at taking one that goes to Russia next.

I would rather be on a broken down ship, than a broken down plane. I'm tough I would just suck it up for a few days if it broke down. Now if we were sinking I might change my mind :)

You think like we do. There is nothing to match a cruise vacation!! Can't wait until our next one. And - ye s- it's safer on a broken down ship than a broken down plane. Great comparison.

Wish we could join you on the Russia cruise. Tell me about it.

I've been on a couple, and yes, l would do them again. So much so l wouldn't do another package holiday again

Our first cruise was on a ship owned by our travel company, Thomsons. They had just bought one of the ships from COSTA,  but a few weeks before they were due to hand it over to Thomsons it crashed into the docks ln Egypt due to bad weather killing 3 crew members.  Thomsons wouldn't touch it until it had been repaired and fit to sail, but it was worth it!

The good thing about a cruise is that you get to see several countries in a short space of time.

There's so much to do on the ships that you never get bored.

We just had one full day at sea, the rest you always wake up in a new country and spend the day there, then it sailed  around 6.30.p.m. By then you were getting ready for dinner and the entertainment.

We only experienced one night where the seas were rough, and that was between France and Italy, but l loved it and it rocked me to sleep.

My theory ls, "Don't knock it until you've tried it!"  ;)
:yeah: Though of course, if you're phobic about the water thing....

Gary would be one giant panic attack, so no cruises for us. But my grandparents took me on one along with my sister when I was 9. It wasn't a huge cruise ship, it was smaller, but had a lovely ballroom, movie theatre, pool, etc. (At 9, I loved playing shuffleboard with my sister LOL).

We started in Denmark, went up the coast of Norway, back down and around to Russia (when St. Petersburg was Leningrad), Finland, Sweden, and back to Denmark. It was AWESOME! I remember most of that trip. As an aside, it was all older people, so I got doted on by EVERYONE, especially the staff of the ship. :lol3:

We did all kinds of traveling when I was growing up, and I did a lot of traveling in College. Things happen. We blew a tire in the middle of nowhere family camping. We ran out of gas. We got stuck on a train in snow drifts for 2 days when traveling from Harrisburg to Chicago. I got stuck in Islamabad for 2 days due to a problem with a plane. I got stuck in New Delhi due to rioting when Indira Ghandi was assassinated, and basically had to camp out in the lobby of a small hotel. I don't remember what we (I was by myself but there were others in the hotel) did for food, but no one wanted to venture outside...

Things happen. :dk:

I think the scariest thing I ever went through was three missed approaches when landing in Milwaukee during a HUGE storm - and that's missed approaches where if you go down, it's in Lake Michigan.

Of course.... on land, there's always the option to walk. :lol3:

I should add... Gary talks about having issues (as re: cruises) with breathing the recirculated air, there have been issues with most everyone on the ships getting salmonella or e. coli.... but that's a risk anywhere. What are we breathing on a plane or in large office buildings? And any time you eat out, you risk food poisoning. Let alone if you're in India or China or Mexico, etc.... I had a wicked case of dysentery in India. Didn't take a cruise ship to make me sick. :lol3:

You're safer on a cruise than you are at home in your bed.  Yes, it's safer than flying, which is extremely safe.  The most dangerous part of the cruise is getting from your house to the airport (or cruise port, if you drive there).

Plenty of outside air on the ship, too, especially if you spring for a balcony!

We are looking at this one. This one will be our holy grail and trip of a lifetime. http://www.cunard.com/cruise-search...qu/198-q310-sou1-sou2/?view=ITE#tabbedContent

We have not set a date as to when but in the near future for sure.
