Hello all, its my first post and I need some help on a situation involving my cat.

This morning, when I was about to feed my cat (and her kittens), I noticed she was tucked in the box with a horrible eye infection (the eye was bulging out and swollen). Took her to the vet and was told she probably got hit by someone (no indications of fights with cats or dogs). Gave us some meds and then told us to give it to her daily and see if she improves.

Right now she's tucked in bed due to the painkillers, but I was wondering whether I should fully separate her from her kittens of almost 2 months old or should I just let them interact normally. The kittens should be fine if they can already start eating semi-solid cat food right? I don't want any more complications on the mother cat, since she's already in pain.

Can you call the vet and ask him?  He has seen how bad the eye is and can give you an informed answer.  Poor mama kitty.  So many babies to deal with and now a bad eye.

Thank you for being so conscientious with your cat.  I hope the vet can tell you what is best.

Others may come along with more advice.  Keep watching this site

Hm..I've tried putting them together, since she sort of misses her kittens, but I'm not letting her nurse them. She's disorientated, and seems so weak. I guess I'll update more as the situation progress, just as a precautionary tale (I hope not T_T).

So far she's just being noisy throughout since I don't let her out, but she calms down as quickly, I'm guessing from the pain. The vet says its 50-50 now, and that she either improves or she dies (middle case is her eye just rots off). She's such a calm and docile kitty, I couldn't imagine anyone would even hit her to such an extent.

Edit: its 11pm here and she was just so restless and noisy I had to let her nurse the kitten for a while. This seems to calm her down. I guess her maternal instinct is just too strong, despite the pain.
