Is she carrying?

Cat secretly went into heat, then we couldn't get her to come home one night. I wandered the highway and eventually found her with another cat, crap!

Not sure how long ago it was, 2-3wks, maybe. She started following me everywhere when I put her outside for the day. She follows me to the mailbox, in the car, all over the farm. She meows at me when I stop walking, cuddles against me and the LGD. She is slightly more tolerant of the house dogs, but she does have moments where she switched from puuuurr to a paw swipe and a hiss, then back to meowing and wanting love. She sleeps in the closet sometimes, but then again, she's always slept in weird places. She is not eating more, she's actually less crazy over her food than she was and the other cat is starting to get fat off her leftovers.

I'm not really seeing different teats, they are a pale salmon color. I compared to the spayed cat, who has nothing to call teats. Her midsection, not the gut, seems a bit more round, like a cat who ate too much. But I don't really see it the same amount every day, but it could just be me and then changing because of food, too.

She doesn't want to be outdoors much anymore, she sleeps on my footrest or half on my arm all day. Before she would loose her mind being "trapped" in the house for more than 2 days.

Anyway, do you guys think she could be carrying a litter? Any way to guesstimate how many she could be having? She is a small cat, 6.8 pounds about a month ago when we weighed them. Other cat is 7.6, roughly, I may of messed up the ounces. Anyway, the other cat was larger, not a huge cat, though. Cream color, long fur, fairly pretty, but it was dark.

The spay place didn't get back to me, really annoying, but if she is preggers now, rather she have them, give away the kitties and then spay her.

Please, if you are planning to get kittens, so do so.

You are either going to spay her, while it is early and nothing much, or you are going on with your plans.

So it is.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

Most likely, yes, an unspayed cat in the northern hemisphere who is allowed outside is almost certainly pregnant this time of year (unless she's infertile, but this is very rare so 99.9% chance she is pregnant). They're pregnant for about 9 weeks so if it was 2-3 weeks ago she's still in the first trimester. But if she was allowed out before that she may be further along. It's not always obvious when cats go into heat, especially if they're able to find a male before showing symptoms.

If she does have the kittens, keep them until 12 weeks old, have them spayed/neutered before placement if at all possible (make an appointment with the spay/neuter place as soon as they're born so you're sure to get them in), if not possible, make a contract with the new owners to ensure they have it done before their kittens get pregnant. . .don't want the cycle to continue. She can be spayed when the kittens are about 8 weeks old, but some vets have different preferences so ask your vet (or the spay clinic) how soon it can be done. Keep her inside until she's spayed---cats can get pregnant again very soon after giving birth, and, besides, you don't want to have to bottle-raise orphans if something happens to her out there.

The cat was not calling nor acting like she was in heat, thus, I let her out like I always do. She eventually did start calling, but that was past dark when I went looking for her.

I don't plan on letting her out again until they are weaned. We don't let them out in rain, snow or when there's road work or neighbors are working on their farms [haying or brush burning, etc]. And if she starts bugging out about being inside, we have a large crate I put her in when she is clearly in heat so she still gets to sunbathe.

She was supposed to be spayed a week after she didn't come home on her own, but the clinic never called back and when I called them again, they said they were all booked up until the end of February. I was so pissed they lost my appointment or whatever happened, but w/e. I don't want to 'kill' the growing babies w/o giving them a chance.

Sorry this has happened when you were not expecting it! Years ago I had a cat who did something similar and clawed her way out of a window so that she missed her spay appointment and of course came back pregnant. It is very difficult to tell how many kittens a cat will have, the size of the cat does not always correspond with the number and this early it would be impossible without an xray - and even that sometimes misses one. I would take her to the vet to confirm the pregnancy, then get ready for the birth. We are always here with practical advice.
