Hi, does anyone know of any good eye cleaners or supplements for Persian cats to help with the tearing?  My sister had a maltese and used that Angel Eyes stuff, but it didn't work that well for her, so I'm leery of purchasing some for the cats.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Gentle cleaning with damp cotton wool will work.  Use a fresh pad for each eye.  You can't stop the tearing, it's due to the shape of the tear ducts not letting them drain fast enough.  You can buy all sorts of expensive solutions, you could use contact lens rinsing solution or you could use plain water.  This will keep them clean, but if there is pale fur that is getting stained probably won't remove all the stain.

Please share what you find out.  My flame point Himmie gets some staining.  It is 100% better since switching to a raw diet, but some staining is still there.

When I was looking online for something for my flame-point Persian, I came across Eye Envy.  It was recommended on a few websites, so I decided to give it a try.  I bought the solution to clean the eyes and then the powder to apply afterwards, which is supposed to help prevent tear staining.  So far it seems to be working alright, but it was quite expensive, so I use the solution every other day and in between I clean with just regular saline.  Another brand that seems to be quite similar is Anna Natural Tear Stain Remover.  Someone also recommended Optrex eye wash as well to me.  But I think so long as you clean their eyes every day, it shouldn't be too bad.

I ordered the Eye Envy starter kit on Amazon for $27. I saw immediate results on Bella, our white kitten. I haven't gotten to use it on Chanel yet because she wasn't having any parts of this today, but I suspect it will work beautifully. Bella is completely, pure, white. Chanel is a chinchilla persian so she's her fur isn't as light. Thanks so much! I'm also going to do what you said and use saline solution daily & just use the Eye Envy a few times a week.

At the suggestion of a lovely member on this thread and several other websites, I tried Eye Envy. I bought the starter set on Amazon for $27 (a little pricey!) but it definitely worked. I plan on using saline solution on a daily basis and the Eye Envy once or twice a week.

Two persian cat owner here... one Tortie and one gray/white. The trick is to keep the eyes clean so they don't tear bad. I have found it's the long hair getting in their eyes that irritates the eyes and makes those stains. I am a contact lens wearer and so I use my Bausch & Lomb Sensitive Eyes Saline Solution. I myself have tried store brand saline solution and some stung my eyes, so stick to the Bausch and Lomb as it doesn't sting and works great. Because the bottle is so big, what I did was empty out one of my tiny 1/3 oz rewetting drops bottles and filled it with the Bausch and Lomb saline solution, and write "cat saline" on the label. Every day I put a drop in each eye and blot with a kleenex. Having a warm/damp washcloth there is nice too as you can wipe their face after and get a lot of those loose hairs in their fur around the face gone. When I see a hair in the eye, I put a few drops so the eye is real watery and the hair kind of floats to the top of the water in the eye and I can get it out with the kleenex. Takes a little practice because you don't want to touch their eye with the kleenex... but the hair in the water usually gets up by the edge of the eye on the bottom lid so you can wipe it out there. If there is stain, I get that out with a q'tip dipped in saline solution. They come out easily because I clean their eyes daily and the stain hasn't been there that long.

Re the Eye Envy.... I use that around my white/gray cat's mouth fur. He is a sloppy eater and gets food on his white fur around his mouth!

Why is it that white cats get tear-stained so much. My River is a Siamese mix, he's all white and blue eyes. Except from a line that runs down his tail, hence the name, that you can barely see as it's only the root that has some color and the ends are white too!

I clean his eyes every day but I don't know how to get rid of the stain either, it goes from clear to red to brown. Any homemade remedies? I don't like using chemicals in them?

A cat groomer suggested using a saline solution (just those over the counter bottles you can buy at any drug store).  I get a cotton pad wet with warm water, then add some saline wash to it and then hold it beneath each eye on my white cat to wash the stains.  It doesn't get rid of ALL the staining but works pretty well.  I've also tried Eye Envy and Angel Eyes and found that the much less expensive saline solution works better!
