Where do you get your straw bedding?

I am trying to improve my cats' shelter. I have read many times that straw bedding is the best option for feral cat shelters, being preferable over things like blankets and wood chips. I don't know how to get straw, and I live in a rural area! I have looked in pet stores and in the local Tractor Supply, Walmart etc. and I can't find straw bedding.

Will I have to resort to having a bunch of straw shipped to my house through FeralVilla or Feral's Place? I'd prefer pick-up if I can if the package is large. Where do you get yours?

Shredded Newspaper works if you can't find straw. You might try local feed stores if you live in rural area. Also I believe Petco and other pet stores carry it for small animal cages.

I use hay and shredded newspaper changing it out once a week since I already have both on hand.

i get mine from Agway, a northeast farm and garden supply chain. places such as this would be the place to look, a true farm and garden supply retailer. you can also get it at lowes http://www.lowes.com/pd_92123-11461-92123_0__?productId=3350810 , but i see they do not offer parcel shipping.

if you have no luck, i would be more than happy to ship some to you via ups or fedex. i don't think the shipping would be very much since the weight is next to nothing. if you want to do this please let me know, i have some extra from what i bought for this winter and i have a ups store a couple of doors down from my work so it would be no problem.

if you do find some locally just make sure that you get straw NOT hay. hay is used for feed, and it draws and holds moisture so it is not a good choice for this.
