So after church today hubby and I go looking a bed mattresses. Much to my distress, I am being told by two furniture stores that flippable mattresses are no longer being sold. I came home and did some internet research, better know as Google. I found out that flippable mattresses are still made for hotel chains. But so far I can't find out where to g to buy one. Has anyone else ran into this problem and what did you do. I am reading reviews about these new mattresses only lasting five to six years. Believe me, I don't want to pay these prices I got quoted today to have a bed mattress last only five years.

What do you mean by flippable mattresses? Why do you need one?
If you flip your mattress every few months, it helps it wear more evenly and makes it last longer, like rotating the tires on your car. But newer mattresses all have pillowtops so you can't flip them.

You could still flip it end to end, just not upside down. I guess that would help a little.

Let me ask a question here. Has anyone recently bought a mattress and was it the kind that flips upside down as well as end to end. If so, where did you find one.

None around here - we have a one-sided mattress we bought 5 years ago and we are past due for a new one. It's not very comfortable. I wish we could get a latex mattress but OMG $$$. I'd go for it but would never convince my husband to spend so much money on a mattress. We asked about the 2-sided mattresses back when we bought ours and were also told they are not made any more.

I think the mattress companies care only about profit by making them cheaper and not last as long, and have to be replaced more often is good for them, too.

p.s. Does anybody worry about toxicity? There are non-toxic mattresses available, but they are very costly.

We have them in England, I had the choice of a memory foam (which I went for) an orepdedric one or a one you could fllip, they are really common here still as in about 70% of the shops stock them, sorry I know that doesnt help you though :(

Hmm.. Last time I bought a mattress (like less than 2 years ago) they had the two-sided ones. I suppose you could always just chop the pillow top part off... Wouldn't look pretty but it might work...

I haven't looked at mattresses in a long time, but I think I've heard that it's not just a case of the pillow top, but they make the bottoms so you really can't flip them no matter what.  It's just a scam to get you to replace your mattress more often.

Yes, I think so too. I have about decided forget the high price ones. But the least expensive I can find that is comfortable if I am going to have to replace it in less than ten years.

I don't know where you live but the Original Mattress Factory makes flippable mattresses.  They only serve parts of the eastern part of the country.  We have them in Ohio.  Making mattresses that can be flipped is part of their advertising.

The underside of these new mattresses is not sleep-on-able.

I have an non-flippable mattress, it was an extremely expensive set, and I didn't know until the first time I went to flip it that it is not flippable. It's not a pillow top or memory foam, but some other product that is not coils and springs. It was very comfortable at first until the sag came. I turn it monthly, but I am not happy with this bed, for the price I paid for it. It had a sag within three years. It has a ten year warranty but the store I bought it from went out of business two years after I bought it. I was really taken. Told that "even though it has a 10 year warranty, it is so good it will last you 20"

Buyer beware, when buying a mattress!

I'm thinking of going with a sleep number next time.

My mom has a Sleep Number bed, and she's had it a good long time. Maybe 15 years? She's replaced the top foam and the foam blocks in between the air mattresses (she called the company, intending to BUY the foam, since it was past warranty and besides, the elderly cats had peed on it, so she figured it was her responsibility to pay for it, but they sent her new foam free! I don't know if they do that for everybody though) and everything else in in fine working order. I'm not really a fan of air mattresses, but they do seem to have a good product and good customer service.

I want a latex foam mattress next---I do NOT like sleeping on springs but I also don't like memory foam, air, or water---I just hope they last long enough to justify the price!

The bottom of the unflippable mattresses is kind of like the top of a boxspring. . .no padding, just fabric over the springs.

Have you had a memory foam bed. We are looking at one made by Sertta called Celebration. It has a 25 year warranty. But it is not flippable and I really wanted one that can be turned over.
