My 10 year old cat Lily started coughing recently. It sounds like it's allergies. I started using World Best about a month ago and I'm wondering if she could be reacting to it. Also, I had to use a Stop cat pee solution because one of my other cats has been peeing on the carpet. It contains cinnamon oil and lemongrass oil. These are the only changes I've made recently. I know it's not her food. Any ideas if these could cause allergies?  I have a friend who's a vet and he suggested giving her Benedryl. If she still coughs he told me to take her into my vet. Thanks in advance.

I think she could easily have allergies to either of those products. The best way to determine is to get rid of one. If she stops coughing then you found the culprit. If not then get rid of the other. If she's still coughing then there may be something else going on.

I would not give her Benadryl without talking to her vet first. Some animals have a reaction to the medication and you don't want to make things worse! Also, you need to know the proper dosage for her size.

I would probably make her a vet appointment just to be on the safe side. They can look her over and make sure it's not something medical like a respiratory infection and advise you on how to use OTC meds to manage her symptoms.

Good luck!

Thank you for your advice. Her coughing seems to be subsiding. I'm still not sure what the cause is/was.  As for the benedryl the advice came from a vet I know well. He's not her vet. He works for the Feds. 1mg for every lb is the dosage.  I only wish he had a private practice. :)
