Why Does Frontline and Advantage Not Work For Fleas Now?

Yep, seed ticks I would see, but not chiggers, so I'm thinking chiggers.  Or a new problem around here......oak mites!

Can cats get chiggers and/or oak mites?  Do they bring them in the house?  I wonder, 'cause my cats are still scratching despite Advantage treatment.

But I may be as likely to bring them home as the cats are, given that I spend so much time outdoors.

Creekgirl:  I feel your pain and frustration.  Trays of  water with liquid dish detergent

will work to determine if you have fleas.  Another tip to attract is to clip a night light

to the tray.  Reason:  Light will attract the fleas.  Reason for adding the soap.  If

you just added water to the trays without the soap, the fleas will just jump out.

Fleas will just go to the bottom of the soap solution and drown.

Once you establish what you have, it's time to do some work to get rid of them.

Treat your cats which I see you have done.  I've used Advantage II for large cats

(9 lbs or more).  Vac daily and vac up some crushed moth balls.  Moth balls will

kill the fleas.  Next spray some exterminator strength PT Ultracide (flea insecticide).

Probably won't find this at the big box stores.  Order it online at http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com

I personally did the above for two weeks before the house was free of fleas.  Alot

of work, but the results were worth it to avoid the fogger which I would not recommend.

Hope it gets better.

Please, jimmycatlover, be careful with mothballs. They are extremely TOXIC.
rmnative:  Thanks for the feedback regarding mothballs.  The crushed mothballs

are used in the vac bag to kill the fleas when they are vac in the bag.  I wouldn't

sprinkle the crushed mothballs on the rug.  Appreciate your concerned response.

We used Frontline for a while and swore it was doing absolutely nothing.  Then went to Advantage and to this day (I can't prove it) I think my one cat had a reaction to it and died.  Then we switched to Vectra from the vet and it was working for a while until we had such horrific humidity this summer that the fleas were unbelievable.  Now going to use Revolution - think it is working for one of my cats.

HOWEVER, a good thing to try is food grade diatomaceous earth in the crevices of your rooms - it kills fleas and is non toxic.  They say you can eat it but I won't.  We were even feeding it to the cats - recommended very low amounts.  It is supposed to help get rid of worms.  They use it on farms for farm animals.

AND, we used Precor once and that seemed to do very well.  You treat your carpets with it and it is supposed to be like birth control for fleas. Don't remember the details but if the eggs fall on the carpet or other surfaces they will not hatch (or something like that).  We thought it helped tremendously but it was a little time consuming and just haven't treated the house again.  I think it even lasts about 7 months.

Hope this helped!

I've been using Revolution for years every summer, my cats can go on the enclosed patio and I have not seen a flea in years. Revolution does work. If you live in an area where there are lots of fleas or your cats go outside you need to put t on your cats every month year round.

I have had the same problem with Advantage 2. I will definitely be switching ! To what product I don't know yet but I'm tired of wasting my money on Advantage 2
