Is anyone else eating low carb? What are some of your favorite meals? I eat a lot of chicken and veggies and egg white omlettes with salsa. How do you keep costs down? It gets expensive when you don't round out a meal with rice, pasta or bread.

I don't do low carb at all. I just keep a record of what I eat throughout the day and keep at or below my set caloric goal.

Yea, everything I've read says that we are already eating too much meat (especially Americans). I would just eat way more fruits and veggies and whole grains with less meat and minimal fat and sweets and try to track your calories. :-)

This way of eating has been amazing for me. I lost 139 pounds in less than a year and I can fit my whole body in one pant leg of my old pants.
I was pre-diabetic, now I have normal blood sugar (no medication). That's one reason I decided on low-carb, to get my blood sugar in a normal range. I know a bannana has vitamins and minerals but a large one can have the same amount of sugar as a glass of soda
. I usually eat a little bit of fruit, lots of veggies and lean protein like chicken breasts and egg whites. Unprocessed foods mostly. Minimal healthy fats like olive oil and no processed sugar at all. The other reason I like low carb is because not eating carbs helps you stop craving them. There is no sugar, so no sugar crashes causing you to crave more. When studies say Americans eat too much meat I think they mean cheeseburgers and fried chicken for the most part :) I understand this way of eating might not be for everybody, but for me when I needed to lose a lot weight and avoid diabetes it was the best thing I ever did for myself. My last physical was the healthiest I've been since high school.

If anyone has meal suggestions that are less expensive that would be great.

In my opinion (and my Doctor's) not eating sugar, greatly reduced chance of heart disease, normal blood sugar, loss of excess weight , eating a lot of vegetables and lean protein are all healthy things. I don't see anything unhealthy. You lose it quicker the heavier you are. The last 10 pounds took a lot longer than the first 10 pounds. I'm very happy with the results. I've had a physical and my Dr. was thrilled with the results. I'm not going to look for something negative just because I lost the weight quickly.

I just wanted in-expensive meal ideas. I wasn't looking to start a thread to defend my eating plan.
