I went to the doctors a few days ago and he said I lost 2 more pounds so I'm down to 217. Thank God. I am not trying to lose this weight cause I don't excerise just walking to the post office and back. About 5-6 blocks and that's all. I do go up & down the stairs alot during the day.

My question is; what do you do for excerise ?

Congrats on your weight loss!

I walk quite a bit and do core exercises and stretches when I have to... I have some kind of aversion to formal exercising, though. I've lost 50 lbs. in the last 12 years - pretty slow going but at least it didn't go the other way. I have 3 medical conditions that work to hold onto fat/energy and they make it difficult to lose weight - also went through menopause a few years ago and that's supposed to add some poundage, so I guess I'm doing pretty good.

Congratulations on losing the three pounds!

I walk pretty much every day.....I just love to walk. A few years ago, I developed some knee problems that necessitated minor surgery on my knee. From that point on, every time I tried to walk for any length of time, I developed really bad pain in that leg. Last year it was so bad that I ended up with x-rays, MRI, and physical therapy for about six weeks. To no avail. In desperation, I gave up walking. Completely. I didn't walk much at all last year; it simply wasn't worth the pain anymore. The worst part of it was that the tests didn't show anything. The physical therapy didn't help, but there was nothing wrong with the leg. The pain got to be dreadful....but there wasn't any thing wrong that anybody could actually pinpoint. And so, I bagged walking for the most part.

Between not walking and everything else that happened last fall, I gained weight. Quite a bit of weight....30 pounds. And I hate that I did. It needs to come off because I simply cannot handle being this heavy. My clothes don't fit and I just feel terrible. My blood pressure skyrocketed, my cholesterol is over 200 for the first time ever (202....it used to be about 140), and my sugar increased, not bad, but it increased. Stress can do really funky things to your body and adding that weight didn't help.

At the beginning of this year (January 2nd), I started walking fairly regularly again. I started slowly and I took my time. Some days I walked, some days, I let it go to give my leg a rest. And I slowly worked my way up to about 3 miles a day again. This month, February, I'm averaging about 3-1/3 miles a day. I walk 2 miles in the morning on the treadmill, then I walk 1.5 miles over lunch. On weekends, I'll do 3 to 3.25 miles on both days on the treadmill, depending on how the leg is feeling. So far, the leg seems to be doing OK.

We have an elliptical in the bedroom and I have a hate/hate relationship with that thing. But this past Monday night, I started doing one mile every night on the elliptical, in addition to my walking. My ortho guy had told me to cross-train my leg, walking and elliptical, so I'm finally taking his advice. My DH has become very vocal about using the elliptical, too, so it was time.

This week, from this past Sunday to today, I got in 23.75 miles from using the treadmill and walking. And an additional 5 miles on the elliptical. I'll take that! That's not bad for me at all. I really love my walking.

Three nights a week (usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), I go through a series of moves with dumbbells. I was using higher poundage weights, but since I'm essentially starting out over again, I'm back to ten-pound weights. It takes me about an hour or so to go through my moves. That's a hassle because I really do hate exercising....it's such a pain in the butt. But it used to be a part of my life and I need to get back to that point.

The weight is coming back off, but it takes awhile. So far, I've probably lost not quite ten pounds. That's OK....it's better than gaining ten pounds! But more importantly, is that I can get back outside again over my lunch break at work and de-stress for awhile. I didn't realize how much I loved being outside at lunch until I couldn't do it anymore.

And that's more information than you probably wanted to know!

34 years ago when Imet my husband I weighed 135 in the 10th grade. I ok with that weight. But now, I have to lose weight for myself. I know I will feel better and I don't eat as much as I did before. It maybe be just a couple of pounds now but I'll take it.

I've been slowly gaining weight over the past few years and I hate it. I have a thyroid problem, so that doesn't help, but still..
I bought a bike late last year and used it a few times before it got cold and now I'm just waiting for it to warm up to use it again.
I signed up for a yoga class this semester because that means that two times a week I HAVE to exercise whether I want to or not.
I try to get myself to do sit ups as well, but that's a hard one to convince myself of. :lol2:

I feel if we just take time out for ourselves we can lose weight and be the perfect person we want to be. Remember do it for you not someone else.

I like walking outside and yoga. I love swimming in the summer too. The gym is my last resort. I only go if the weather outside is unbearable.

I am overweight by a good bit:(  I walk a few miles a day if it is not raining.  A puppy is great incentive!

I hate sit-ups and crunches. Would love to have a bike but I'm as graceful as a kitten and I'd end up falling off the bike.....often. Rick said the only way I could ride a bike would be with knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet. And preferably pads all over my body. Three people in my department at work bought bikes now. They keep them in their offices, but I really never saw them ride that often, even before winter set in.

We have an Ab Roller (I think it's called) in the basement and I'm going to start using it again at the beginning of March, once it starts to warm up down there a bit. Meanwhile, I'm using my exercise mat in the bedroom for crunches, three times a week.

Really, with all the junk we have for exercising purposes, I have no excuse for gaining 30 pounds. It's a shame.

Kudos on the yoga class, Minka! That's definitely a good thing for you.

You know, there's a weight-loss group in the Social Groups. If you've not already done so, why don't you join us? There are 22 members, I think, but not everybody posts anything. I'm going to make an effort to post in there more often because I think it might help me.....maybe it will serve as a bit of an incentive for me. C'mon in!

It's too bad some of us don't live closer together....we could start an in-person weight loss group and exercise together at times.
