I have cared for many feral/semi-feral cats over the years, most of the time they would grow to trust me through outside feeding and eventually just wander inside when they were ready. Recently though, I had to move one into my home against his will. Hes an orange tiger, male, five years old. Neutered by the local TNR program. I have cared for him on my porch almost all of his life. He gradually grew to trust me, and thrive on physical contact, especially petting. He doesnt have good vision and his survival skills are minimal. We're selling our house, so I am making an attempt to try and move him inside, so I can take him with me, instead of bringing him to a shelter. I followed good advice getting him inside and into his own room (first in a cage and now he has the whole room) and his trust bond is still very much in tact. He thrives on physical attention from me. The challenge, which I did anticipate, is he is meowing incessantly, even now that I have let him out of his cage. Literally about 22 hours a day, almost without pause. He is eating and drinking well, using his litter box, and has everything he needs and I know hes not in physical pain. He has a kitty pheromone diffuser and I have a white noise machine on to help him feel less startled by our noises around the house. He quiets completely if I sit with him, but the second I leave, he starts meowing again. I have another indoor cat who is very upset by this constant noise and its driving all of us crazy. I am realistic here, I understand why hes doing it, and that it will hopefully die down with time. My question is just to find out what things others have done to deal with this problem...if anyone has a creative way to sooth him I would love to hear it. The vet is coming next week and wants to give him transdermal meds for anxiety, which might help. But Id rather something more behaviorally based.

I found this piece causes mine to stop running and gets them soothed quite well, maybe yours would find piece of nature sounds something he missed?

I see there is forest sounds 10 hours long in related videos, one to test too for sure, but of course one would need laptop or computer into room, or some other means to get sound to play from Youtube.

There are such music cd discs too that contain similar relaxation sounds, but I don't know if such without music exists and I don't know where to find those.

I did found with few of my cats that they were too social to be left alone, as long as they could roam freely and see other cats they did settle, but that is of course not always as simple for various of reasons.

Different music does have different effects, Verdi or Chinese opera causes mine to go to other room for example, soothing piano songs tend to interest them more so they come and settle down, not all likes the same of course, harp music works for some.

MOS6581 tends to cause interest and then scare them away and as I made small program that did play tones by pc-speaker it was something that they attempted to sniff at.

But also some cats don't really care much about music or sounds.

Thank you! I have a spare ipad here, so I will just load your link, hit play and see what happens! I

I agree he would be much better if I let him out and he could be with me. Unfortunately the other cat in the house, also once semi-feral, is female and he dominates her (they know each other) and she is incredbily attached to me. It was fine when he was outside and she was inside but now that they are going to have to share me its going to be hard. for that reason, I am going really slowly on allowing him out of his one room.

I really appreciate the help. Crying kitties sound so sad!

An update: After almost 36 straight hours of meowing, the second I turned on classical music, not a peep. Its been four hours of silence. Wow, wish I had known about the music idea before! Thanks again!
