9yo spayed DSH indoor only suddenly went off food week and half ago.  Only change was change in food to UTI Purina for other cat that had UTI signs.  Other cat cleared up fine and no issues.  She was always a skinny cat with a low appetite.  The kind of cat that will ask for food - eat 3 pieces and walk away.  After she went off her food she quickly lost weight, but didn't notice a big change in drinking or urinating immediately.  Couple days after stop eating went to store and got a huge variety of food and she ate really well.  Next day ate ok then 3rd day back to eating nothing.  So the following day we took her to the vet:

CBC - all normal

GLU 333

BUN >130

CREA 13

PHOS >16

CA 7.2

AMYL 2000

CHOL 230

LIPA 1600

Na 138

K 3.2

CL 100

Everything else normal.  Vet says CRF.  Put her on azodyl, phosphate binder and periactin, SQ fluids.    Says will likely have only a couple more days and that most important thing is to get her eating.   But I wonder about the Glucose, how does she have such a high glucose without eating.  Is it diabetes as well?  Did the diabetes start this all?  The short term of going completely normal behavior and everything to barely able to walk really skinny in a week makes me shocked to think it's CRF.  Any thoughts would be great.

Well, stress can increase Glucose levels, so that may be why.  There is no > next to it...is that per the lab, or did you  just not type it in?

I am so sorry you got the results you got
.  Here is a wonderful site with everything you could possibly need to know about kidney disease in cats which many members find very useful.  It even has tricks for getting cats to eat, how to read the lab reports, what to do when they are nauseated, etc.  I, myself, referred to it on numerous occasions when my dear

was still with me.  http://www.felinecrf.org/index.htm

Oh, and if you are going to do the sub-q fluids at home, we're here to help you!  Many of us have done (and still do) it, so can give you tips along the way.

She likely had low-grade CRF before all this started, and then the new food--that she obviously didn't like--made her stop eating, and it spiraled down from there. It seems sudden but a cat with even low-grade CRF can crash quickly.

That's a great website posted above . So I can't really add anything else, just :vibes: that she starts eating soon!

That is a pretty high glucose number for it to just be stress, but I suppose it could be possible. I would recommend having either a fructosamine test done (which is an average of blood glucose levels over a few weeks - eliminating the stress factor), or perhaps getting some urine glucose test strips from the pharmacy and seeing if you can catch a urine sample to test yourself. If she's spilling glucose into her urine at home, she's most likely diabetic.

Dehydration can elevate the blood renal values and make it look like CRF when it may not be. Was a urinalysis done? That's a crucial piece of the puzzle.
