I have a FB page and only have about 50-60 friends.  I obviously don't "friend" a lot of people.  Recently, I added an 18 year old young lady who used to be a friend of my daughter's.  This girl was adopted as a baby; she knows her birth mother but doesn't really have a relationship with her.  Her adoptive Mom died when she was about 9 years old.  Her Dad remarried, then divorced, so she lost her step-Mom.  I've known her since she was in pre-school and I like her a lot.  As strange as it may sound, it appears that I'm the one constant female in her life.  The first time she sent me a message on FB, she asked if she could call me Ma or Mom or Momma (etc), and of course I told her yes.

Now the problem: it seems as if every time I am on my FB page she starts a conversation with me.  I could count on both hands the number of times I've had conversations with friends in the last 2 1/2 years; it's obviously not something I do very often.  It's not that I mind talking to her, but we truly have very little in common.  I usually end up making an excuse to tell her why I can't just sit and talk to her, and I absolutely hate doing that.

I'm not a FB whiz, but I'm assuming that when you're there the little green dot behind your name lets other people know you're around.  Is there anyway to block that little dot ( yeah, I know how stupid that sounds
)  I would simply like to be on my page, posting to other people, without a "hey, wassup Ma?"  popping up constantly. Strangely, I check the list down the right side of my FB page for names of friends who are online, and I rarely come across her name.  How is she doing that?!

I hope I don't sound as awful as I think I do;  I don't want to hurt her feelings, but I also don't need to talk to her half a dozen times a day.  (until last week, I hadn't seen her in months, so it's not as if we were super close to start with).

You can set chat to offline theres a box just across from where it says chat just click that and you will appear offline to everyone, you would have to do that each time you go on fb though
