Am I the only one with weird kitten? LOL Aragorn, my brown tabby won't let me shower or bathe in peace and quiet. I'll be having a nice relaxing bath then boom one kitten is being chased by the other kitten. Then SPLASH....there is Aragorn in the bathtub with me and he stays there even though I toss him out he keeps coming back and likes staying in the water in the tub!

The shower is exactly the same except both Aragorn and Legolas are in the shower with me and not with my consent!

Is this unusual behaviour for 6 month old kittens?

Some cats just love water. Turkish Vans love to swim- it is really cool to watch them. There is a video on a cat breeding site that shows one in the pool.

I know when Mike and I are in the spa, we have 3 cats who lay on the edge just playing with the water. It is a bit hot for them to just dive in, but they are sure relaxing while we are!

I've never know a cat to actually want to be in a bath, but I've heard about turkish vans. I personally think it would be kind of fun.

Some cats do like water. My little bengal girl bathes with me everyday; on the rare occasion that she sleeps in while I shower, she sulks for the whole day, until we go and have "bathroom time". Just think, if you ever need to bathe your little guy it should be easy!

I have one kitten that loves his bath. He hates the blower, but loves being combed out after that. He even sleeps on his back while I work on his tummy!

My Bengal,
will go in the tub, shower, and toilet. I have learned to keep seat down now, after a rather expensive plumbers bill due to a cat toy that got flushed. I am used to his love of water now. He loves a bath.

There's no place like home
I had a 10 year old unneutered male rescue (assumed feral) that didn't groom himself. After neutering him and starting socialization, I started giving him baths. He LOVED them. He'd walk up and down the length of the tub, rubbing on me and purring, then just sit down in the water while I scrubbed him. Poor guy didn't groom himself at all, and was terribly stinky unless I gave him a bath at least weekly. He was indoor/outdoor, a good hunter, and let me tell you that cleaning mice-guts from his face was always a joy (yuk)! I think he appreciated them (go figure a feral loving baths). The vet's advice was that there are the rare cats (usually older unneutered males) that don't groom at all.

Slightly off topic, but a cat loving water story.....

First of all thank you everyone for letting me know that I'm not the only one that has kittens that seem to like water! I'm still surprized by it and I guess it will take time for me to adjust.

Sicy...I don't know what happened to my link. I came back to post something clicked on the link and it kept on saying that the page could not be found! If you could help me I would appreciate it a great deal!

I'll send you a PM to let you know how to get in touch with me as I changed my email addy.

Our kitten, Tiki, hasn't taken the full dip yet but she loves to be in the bathroom, next to the tub, when my girlfriend or I shower or take a bath.

She's dying to know what water is - she'll stick her paw in repeatedly, "test the water" so-to-speak, then pull her paw out and plant herself alongside the bath. Her favorite is to stretch herself out between shower curtains, so she gets to experience the pitter-patter of the shower water without actually getting wet.

She's also insanely curious of glasses of water. She won't put her paw in the top, but she'll hug the glass and trace her paw along the water line.

My kitten Koneko aso loves water, although not to swim in it! We have a tap downstairs, and whenever someone runs it, she always comes running, and jumps into the basin to play with the water. She taps the water with her paws, and lets it go over her head. She is also very interested in the small swimming pool we have in our backgarden. It is high off the ground, and we keep a cover on it when it is not being used, but she still likes to play with the cover, balancing on the edge. I'm a bit worried that she will fall in, although I know she has an excellent sense of balance. I was wondering whether she would be able to swim and save herself if she did fall in. I know that lots of cats dont like water, but can they swim if they have to, and how long could she stay afloat for? Thanks!

Hehe, two of my siamese looooove water and take showers with me. They also loooove for me to fill up the tub without 6 inches of water so they can wade around in it. I have pictures of em, or had pictures of them somewhere. I'll have to look it up.

I do have pictures of Sebastian (Bast) drinking water from the faucet in the tub while I'm filling it up for him and his brother. Drew patiently sits at the edge of the tub and waits for it to fill up before going in.

Jake won't go with in 10 ft of the water. He absolutely hates it.

I've seen a couple of cats swim but only on tv. I honestly don't know whether it is a natural thing for them to do. Maybe you should start a new thread and ask that question.

Good Luck!
