Looking for suggestions for my 5-year-old neutered male who likes to eat toilet paper, tissue paper, napkins, etc. I am the second "owner" and do not not know much about his previous life. I know he is happy and loving, but I have to hide all paper products. There is another 4-year-old neutered male in the household, but he does not seem interested in paper at all. They were adopted at approximately the same time. No other cats or pets in household.

Hi frenchkitty! Welcome to TCS!

I was going to ask a mod to move your thread to the behavior section but I see you have been posting in a similar thread over there. Sometimes cats just do weird things. My older one loves plastic: plastic bags, plastic wrappers- all of it. So, of course, I can't leave any of that stuff lying around!

I don't think there is anything wrong with him he just has an affinity for paper products. Have you tried meeting this need by getting him some cardboard toys? I have seen them at pet stores and it may help with his cravings. Just keep an eye on him with them and make sure he doesn't swallow any big pieces. You could also try just giving him his own roll of something and letting him go to town. Of course, the risk is that then he will think it's okay to go after all paper products. That's just something you have to weigh.

Otherwise, do what you can to keep your toilet paper and paper towels out of reach!

Hi, welcome to TCS!  My Daisy loves to shred any paper product she can get her little hands on.  She doesn't actually swallow the paper, just tears it to pieces.  I think cardboard is her favorite.
