My kitten just turned 5 months old. About 1 1/2 weeks ago she was consipated and my husband had to help her get the poop out of her butt by running it under warm water.  Then she started walking slow and sitting down every couple of steps.  Now she lost all control of her hind legs not able to use them just dragging herself with her front legs.  From the time we brought Savannah home she did not seem to play much and walked sort of weird ,  She is unable to use the litter box and just urinates where is is laying.  She is 1 of 7 in her litter and we also purchased her sister so she would have someone to play with and her sister is twice her size and very frisky.  When we brought her home at 10 weeks old she had some type of virus where her eyes would water alot and sneezing the vet gave us antibiotics and said she had an upper respiratory infection.  That seems to have cleared up but now the issue with her not able to walk with her hind legs dragging herself is very devesting to me.  The vet said feels it a neurological issue and said that  he could do xrays, mri etc. but feels it best to put her down.  She does not seem to be in any pain, eats and drinks very well and purrs when you pet her.  Does anyone have any suggestions for me.  We love her so much and do not want to put her down and its no life for her not able to get around.  She sits up in her bed and watch her sister playing which breaks my heart.

Without knowing more than you have told us, I'm inclined to agree with the vet.  Not being able to use her back legs is very disabling, and she is also very small.  Cats don't show pain and purring can be to comfort themselves - female cats kittening purr - so it's very hard to know.  However if she continues to have problems passing faeces, or has problems urinating, those in themselves can be very serious.

Sorry to not be more hopefully, and I wouldn't get another kitten from the same place as it sounds like you got kittens with an upper respiratory tract infection.

I would take baby to a specialist for another opinion. I would not be able to put this baby asleep just yet. I am fostering a special needs baby that cannot walk and he is a very happy little fella but his story is different he was born this way so you can't quit compare. Please, see a Neurologist.

This is very devistating to me and my husband and daughter.  We love her so much.  If we were to put her down, there would always be something in our heads asking if there were something we could have done.  It doesnt look promising and we are taking it day to day and awaiting for the vet to give us his honest opinion.

I volunteer at a cat sanctuary.  Several cats have back leg problems (at least one from distemper), all adjusted well to just moving on two or three legs and are happy and not in pain.

Does the kitten poop normally?

My husband and I were looking back to then this all occured and it was just after she had blood work.  Can a needle done the wrong way cause damage or neurological problems?  She only weight 2.7 lbs.

I purchased her along with her sister so she would have someone to play with but now her sister doesnt have someone to play with.  The breeder seemed very well established and has been doing it for years.  I paid $800.00 for this kitten and got her sister for $500.00 because I purchase 2 together.  We figured if we paid a lot of money for them they should be well cared for and would be getting kittens in good health not from a cattery that just keeps producing kittens for money

Have you contacted the breeder?  She/he should be put on notice that there might be something wrong with the Queen and perhaps not to breed any more cats.

How much a breeder charges doesn't really tell you anything. . .a bad breeder could charge a ton, a good breeder might not charge much at all, etc. You have to visit them, see their setup, how their cats are treated, that kind of thing, to be sure. It doesn't really seem to be a good sign that they had respiratory infections when you brought them home :/. Yes, colds happens in multiple-cat situations but the breeder shouldn't have let them go until they were better. She's also EXTREMELY small; less than half the weight she should be. Was she always smaller than her sister or did she just not grow at the same rate? Has the vet said anything about her growth? How's her appetite?

But anyway, water under the bridge. Have you contacted the breeder? Maybe they've seen this before, or have some ideas other than what the vet is suggesting.

I left a message for the breeder to call me that we had serious issue with Savannah whick was on Saturday and she sent me an email later in the day stating she had company and it was hard for her to talk and that she would call me back on Monday. Well 2 Monday's have past and no phone calls.  My husband also sent her an email which she never replied to.  I notice her website Breezybrookcats is not there anymore it says the domaine has expired?  I do not know what that means.  We had an episode with her last night she had diarrea and my husband ran warm water over her rear end to clean it and her back leg started kicking like crazy which is very strange because she is unable to move her legs.  She bit my husband which I think she freaked out about her leg.  It seems like some type of neurological problem with her brain???  When we brought her home, she was 1/2 the size of her sister.  She has grown a little bit.  Her brother was even smaller then her.

You do not need to put her down. This condition can be treated at home by you. She needs physical therapy which you can do and some tape. That's it. She needs to re-train her muscles and ligaments. You can read more about this on the internet but can have this fixed in a mater of days. You will need to tape her back legs together with enough space in between like if she was standing normal alone. Give enough room for her to walk. encourage her to walk she might not like it at first but doing this has help other cats walk normal by 8 days. Do a little research online and read about it and try, its worth a shot, better then not doing anything and letting her die. Look up "swimmers legs"  in kittens or just google "kitten back legs not working" you will find how to help her.

I just found a kitten about a week ago, she was just fine but was scared of people. I would put food and water outside on my porch for her. Last night I noticed she wasn't walking right and hardly using her back legs. I took her to the vet today and they told me she was about 5 months old. They do not know what it is. They put her on a weeks worth of prednisone and told me to come back in a week. Did you ever find out what it is with your kitty and did she ever recover?
