Hi everyone!

Name's Sharon & I currently have 3 cats.  I've had cats as long as I can remember & can't bear to see a cat w/no home (which is why I have 3 cats currently).  My current cats are Sam (7-8-year old Siamese half-feral foundling) Jordi (2-year old Tabby) & Jackson (3-year old Tabby) & I was wondering if anyone could help me w/a problem I've been having w/my 3-year old Jackson.

He's a new cat (not newest, that's Jordi).  A friend of mine raised him from birth because his mother refused to for some reason & she kept him in her room for the first few years of his life because she had a number of big dogs (they live out in the country so I think they're almost always picking up strays).  So, he's never been socialized w/any other animal.  Last year around March, she put a post up on the internet to see if anyone wanted him because she realized that a life in her room wasn't much of a life (& probably because she couldn't take care of him any longer) & I saw it.  &... seeing as I'm such a softie for cats, I told her I'd take him.

So, I came & got him in April.  For the first few days after we got him home, he wouldn't come out of the basement he was so scared of everything... even Sam scared him.  After a few weeks of that, he realized 'hey, I'm bigger than she is' & he started terrorizing Sam (getting into big fights, etc).  So, we now have day cat & night cat.

Fast forward a few months & I see another cat at the petstore.  I never to go into the petstore because I'll be taking home all the cats.  But, my mom dragged me in there (she doesn't have that problem) & now we have Jordi.

Jordi & Sam get along great.  But, Jordi & Jackson -- not so much.  They also get into rough n' tumble fights w/hissing & yowling, etc.  & Jackson got out of his area one day & ran Sam up into my room & under my bed.  So, now I have Sam living in my room 24/7 because she's frightened of Jackson.

Oh, & I have Feliway & that seems to have cut down on the biting & scratching us....

I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to figure out: 1) is this because he's never been socialized w/another cat? 2) can we get him socialized so I don't come home to a dead cat one day? & 3) if we can get him socialized, how do I do this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to the site! :wavey:

I would take introductions very slowly. Keep Jackson in his own room with everything he needs. Don't let him have access to any other cats for a few weeks. Then you will need to do some scent exchange. Get something like a towel to smell like the other cats and put it under Jackson's food. Do the same with Jackson to the other cats. That way they associate each others smells with good things like food. The next step I would take would be letting them sniff each other through the cracked door. After they seem comfortable with this you can open the door but block physical access off with either stacked baby gates oraa screen door temporarily installed.

Hopefully this helps. I am sure more experienced members will be along soon to give you more advice.

Thanks for the welcome :)  We're kinda already doing the letting them sniff each other under doors thing seeing as Sam's in my room when Jackson's up & about & when Sam's up & about, Jackson's right behind the door & Sam actually hisses at the door)

One thing I forgot to mention though -- if it makes much difference (not sure it does & not sure it doesn't) is that Sam's a small 8 lb cat, Jordi's a med 11 lb cat & Jackson's a huge 17-18 lb cat.  Do you think that might hinder things or no?

I can't think of anything to add to CatNamedPanda's advice, but wanted to welcome you to TCS.
