Thanks! I couldn't picture it. However, now seeing this reminds me that my boy cat Baby used to stand up and pee. I bought linoleum samples and lined the boxes with them. I never thought of plastic tote boxes in those days, if they even had them then.

What did you use to fasten the plastic to the box? Don't forget to let us know how it works. Hey, you know, I'd love to see a video of Lucky ...er...doing her thing. :lol3:

I used a glue gun....
Lucky looked rather defeated and disappointed actually :lol3:
She jumped in, looked around, and jumped out - I guess she noticed she wouldn't be able to make a mess and thought it would be no fun to pee :doh3:

Sorry I forgot to mention the cost of the splash guards - I got them a while ago and

I was so desperate that I probably would have happily paid ten times that much

to stop the pee going over the box.

One thing you might consider is to run some hot glue around the edges of

the templates and seal things off.  I did that because I was worried the pee

might find its way between the template and the box.  I also cut an entrance

for my kitty, but she doesn't jump well.

LOL. I'm glad you found a solution that worked. Poor Lucky though.

I am having the same problem with my female she has begun standing while peeing, every new litterpan i have tried she refuses to use, she will only step into the box that she had.. i am so frustrated i don't know what to do.. i want to strap weight on her butt to make her stay in a swat position..lol*... I spent my evenings now mopping and cleaning up her mess... i think i am becoming more stressed than any of my cats... i have 3 the other two.. Thankfully use the litterbox wonderfully without any issues...

As mentioned in this thread, putting puppy pads around the litter box will help with the mess.

First thing to do is to take her to the vet, since this is new behavior. She may be doing this because of a urinary tract disorder.

Keep at least one high sided box always available, and put cat attract litter in it. She may start to use it eventually, when it isn't new any more. And, if she is not sick, she might just discover how fun it is to drill the pee against the side of the high sided box, like my Mazy cat did.

But do take her to the vet first and get her urine tested.

I was searching here on TCS for a thread about "CATS THAT STAND TO PEE" I couldn't believe it when I saw your thread, Carolina!!!!!!!! :lol3: Presley just started raising up lately to pee. NOW the last two days, he is standing at the end of the pee and flickering his tail all the while. SO - I have been looking into changing out ALL of my litter boxes (which are the huge new tall backed boxes, which he still pees over) to the Rubbermaid or the Sterilite tall boxes and cut out a door. I just bought new boxes too. He has always lifted slightly to pee but now it is all out standing by the end. IN fact, I saw him begin in the standing position and then end in the squat. :wife: I have tested his urine and his PH is perfect and no blood. Of course, I am going to bring in a urine sample to the vet for my own piece of mind but I know this is a common behavior for some cats.

What I am doing in the meantime is this: I am taping Saran Wrap along the backside of the litter box to the wall and then inside the litter box itself a couple of inches. This is working perfectly for now because he always goes way in the back of the box. I think part of it is that he can't get his tail out of the way, but not sure.

Your setup is a great idea and suggestion. Thanks for sharing. At least I am in good company.

Apparently not - glad to share this exciting part of my life

Anyways.... Seriously though - So far it's been working with a few accidents here and there when she turns her butt to the entrance :doh3:
But other than that, it's been great :clap::clap::clap:
Between her an Mac I got my work cut out for me - let me tell ya - thank goodness I got no carpet in this house :censor:
