Hello everyone,

I've been reading this site for a few months now, but actually just officially joined now.  We adopted Archer from the Hawaii Humane Society at the end of June.  He was my belated birthday present from my hubby & I must say the best birthday present ever!  When we went to look at the kittens there was something about him that just said "take me home!"  He was about 4 months old at the time of adoption (so born sometime in Feb, so of course I've picked Feb 14 as his birthdate
) & weighed roughly 4 lbs.

On the drive home we let him out of the carrier while I sat in the back seat with him (I know, I know a huge no, no!  And he's NEVER out of his carrier when we're in the car now) & he popped his head out & saw me.  He cried for about 5 minutes on the drive & then crawled up in my lap, purring the whole time, and fell asleep, and that was all it took.  I was smitten & he seemed to decide that I was his

Now he follows me around, comes when I call him (much to my husband's annoyance because he won't come when he calls him
), is always there to greet us at the door, loves cuddles, lap time & playtime, and he talks up a storm!  And even though he's trouble & a brat sometimes, he's a constant source of joy & entertainment for us.  We keep saying that he's filled something that we didn't even know was missing in our lives.  We're happier people & are always happy to be home to be with him.  Guess that's a good thing because Hawaii is expensive, so I guess he saves us money too

Right now we're in the process of transitioning him from kitten to adult food & are having some trouble with that, so I'll post in the nutrition column (hope that's the right one) to get some tips on making that a smoother transition.

Sorry this post was so long.  I'm just so happy to have my kitty & a place to talk about him a lot where people won't think I'm weird or get annoyed with it
.   We're happy to be here & "meet" you all.  Now if I can just figure out how to embed a photo...guess I need to read up on some of the stickies!

He's cute!  I so totally understand how your cat adds something wonderful to your lives; the goofy grin on my husband's face whenever he even talks about our cat is priceless.  And yes, you're now in a place where we are all 'crazy cat people' and can talk uninhibitedly about our fur-kids!

Here's our Kato:

Hi, welcome to TCS!  We are happy to have you here.  Archer is adorable...and I love the mischievous look in his eyes in both pics.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes:)

tammyp:  I totally know what you mean about that goofy grin on your husband's face...mine gets the same look & he was a self-professed dog lover until we got our boy

nurseangel: Oh mischievous doesn't even to describe our little stinker, but he's so worth it!

Angels Mommy: He definitely is our handsome little boy, thank you
.  He's grown into those ears now though!   (That pic was actually from a few weeks after we got him, but he still does have adorable ears;) )

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi Archerbaby! Welcome. I am pretty new as well. I joined mostly to get support as I transition to raw feeding, and it's so nice to be able to share about my cat. My H thinks I've turned into "the crazy cat lady". Archer is beautiful. It sounds like the 3 of you are lucky to have found each other.

Thank you vball91 & David's Steph
He is our beautiful boy & we are very fortunate to all have each other!
And vball91, I think my hubby secretly thinks I'm a crazy cat lady too now ;)

So cute! Playing in the sheets & stuff. :)

I wasn't aware that having your cat out of a carrier on a car ride was a nono. Oops. Light absolutely loves car rides. He perches up in the back window and gawks at the cars. Perhaps it's a safety hazard for him? I promise I don't take him on the freeway, just trips to pick up the boyfriend from work & whatnot.

Well, don't tell anyone
, but to be honest the cat I had growing up hated the carrier, so much in fact that I was often afraid he'd hurt himself since he'd try to thrash around because he was so desperate to get out.  So anytime we had to take him to the vet I'd just hold him on my lap.  We did live in the country then, so very few cars & no major roads.  And the cat I had growing up was actually very well behaved & stayed in my lap the whole time & would just stand up to sniff out the window that we'd crack open a tiny bit for him.  But I've heard the horror stories since then, so I'm not willing to take that risk anymore.  Now I've just made sure to get our new kitty, Archer, used to the carrier at home & used to being in it for car rides.  He whines for about 5 minutes & then tends to settle down without problems.

Light is really good about curling up I my lap when he's not in the back window. My parents have definitely informed me of the danger of them climbing down at your feet while driving so I keep a close eye on him but he shows no interest. Thank goodness.

Have you tried just keeping the carrier covered with a towel? That calmed our Havoc kitty a but when we took him to the vet.
