Hi,

I used to post here frequently when I first got Avalon as a baby kitten.  I feed her and give her water twice a day.  She has not peed since yesterday and pooped since Sunday and today is Thursday.  I took her to vet today and she said she looked fine.  Her temp was fine and so was her heartbeat.  The vet felt her abdomen and could not find anything.  She offered to do x-rays but they are three hundred dollars and she didnt push for x-rays and would not do enema.  I am not in state of panic.

Okay I am prefacing off the bat that I don't have any expienrece with this type of problem. I jut thought I would brainstorm some ideas and see if any of them help. If she's not better tomorrow I would go back to the vet- I agree with you, 5 days without pooping and more than 24 hours without peeing doesn't sound like a good thing.

SInce she did check out okay today my first thought is that something stressful happened and this is her body's way of handling it. Any new people or pets in the home? A new noisy neighbor?  Some change to her routine?  If she is eating and drinking normally then I could see it being a stress reaction. But, if she's not then I would be worried that something else is going on. Is it possible she got into something toxic or ate some sort of object that could be blocking her? A piece of string or a broken toy or something?

Also, have you checked carefully to be sure she isn't going to the bathroom somewhere else?  Maybe she got spooked to her box and found a dark corner that she is more comfortable with? I would look around carefully and be sure.

Finally, did you ask the vet about some sort of stool softener/laxative? Perhaps she is constipated and needs a little help getting things moving. I would call tomorrow and ask what they would recommend. But, if she's still bad tomorrow I wouldn't give her anything without a more comprehensive examination. If she does have some sort of blockage adding a laxative is not going to help matters!

I'm sending you and Avalon vibes that she's just a little out of whack and that it's nothing serious. Here's hoping you wake up to a super full litterbox! Please let us know how she is doing!

Good advice there!  One more thing you can maybe do is add some water to her wet food - I'm thinking extra water in her can't hurt and could help.

Hi there,

Thank u very much for replying promptly.  I actually meant to say I was in a state of panic.  I did not spell the word now correctly.  I put the t where the w belonged.  sorry.

Anyway, Avalon pooped a little bit last night and she pooped again earlier today before I woke up.  I am so happy now.  She is eating good and drinking water.  She acts normal which is what she was doing.  Her behavior never changed.  She is a very sweet cat and she was a very sweet kitten.  She was just a wee bit mischevious as a kitten which is typical kitten behavior.  I have always loved her like she is my child and always will love her like that.

Thanks again for your help.

Haha I figured out what you meant. I had to read it a few times but the tone of the rest of the post implied that you were feeling a little frantic!

I'm so glad to hear she has pooped some! That makes me think her tummy just got a little blocked up (happens to everyone- human and feline). I would still keep an eye on her the next few days until she gets all the way back to normal but it sounds like she is in good hands!

Glad she is doing better!
