Since last summer I have been having such horrid bladder pain, like my bladder is over stretched.
I was given a referral to a uro-gyne specialist back in July 2012 and today finally arrived!!! It was a long 6 months!!
I had to wait beyond my appointment time to see the doctor, and I just couldn't hold it in anymore so I went to the bathroom. One of the nurses gave me a finger wag as she saw me come out of the bathroom and told me that I should not have went and that a full bladder was better for the appointment.
I explained that I couldn't wait anymore and that I was about to cry because of the pain.
Turns out it was a good thing I went, because it was about another 30 minutes before the doctor came into the room to see me, and by that time I was in terrible pain again feeling like I had to go.
He scanned my bladder and found very little urine inside, and after a physical assessment determined that all of my symptoms were indicative of Over Active Bladder. He said that mine is one of the more over active that he's come across.
He gave me a prescription for Ditropan and I go back in 3 months for a follow-up. If the medication doesn't work, he will move me up to a more effective medication. However, my insurance plan requires him to start me off on this one to see if it works. He said that he will likely have to move me up to the next one though, based on his experience and given how over active my bladder is.
In the meantime I have to stay away from things like caffeine and citrus juices (I'm guessing I also need to reduce the amount of citrus fruits that I eat as well). And I have to work on bladder training IE: making a set plan on when I go to the bathroom, which is going to be difficult at work.
