Hey everyone,

I've now posted a couple of times about Christopher Robin, who has been showing a few weird symptoms and then had 2 teeth extracted the day before yesterday. I've been keeping a close eye on him since the anesthesia, and have a few concerns.

The first and most urgent is that tonight, he has peed I think 4 times in total, once maybe at 10pm (I'm in the Netherlands), once at 1am, and then twice at about 6:15am (about half an hour ago) in very close succession (maybe 10 minutes apart? maybe less).

After reading all about metacam (which he has received as an injection and 1 day orally), and Ketamine (which he was given during the tooth procedure), I am extremely paranoid about renal failure.

I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with more frequent urination post-anesthesia as something more regular and that didn't require immediate attention? He does drink a lot of water (I mix it into his wet food), so I wasn't SO concerned with the first 3 times, but the 2nd time in close succession was what really freaked me out. I checked the box both times and there was a fairly regular amount of urine, a bit smaller of a pee clump the first time, and a bit larger the 2nd.

Otherwise the only out of the ordinary behavior is that he has barely slept at all since the procedure. When he got back from it he was pretty groggy, stumbling around, then he seemed to mellow at night, but by morning he had become kind of hyperactive and agitated seeming. He ran around for much of the morning/afternoon yesterday, and by the late afternoon/evening had again mellowed but was laying down and not sleeping. This continued until about 1am and he was laying next to me as I slept from then until about 6, so I think that he might have slept some at that time. Now he's laying down not sleeping again.

Foodwise he has been eating and I haven't seen any vomit or poop problems.

Should I be panicking? At this point I might just take him to the vet at any case this morning, but they don't open for another 2 hours so I hope that I am okay not taking him to the emergency room. If anyone has any experience with post-anesthesia pee and sleeplessness, please let me!

I just want him to be healthy and happy.

I checked Rosie's litterbox as soon as l got home and there was three pee balls there and of average size. If he's drinking more he's going to pee more just like we humans do?

I think you still have to remember that he's just had surgery so won't be feeling 100% yet, but if your worried a trip back to the vet would ease your mind.

Rosie hasn't had a bowel movement since her surgery on Monday, but having said that she hasn't ate as much as she usually does?. She's going for a check up tonight to see how her incision is healing, but lf there's still nothing in the litterbox when l get home this afternoon l'll be mentioning it to her vet.

I gave her some kitten kibbles this morning and she loved them, so hopefully they'll get her started

I'd just call the vet.

Our Chumley usually pees a huge pee, once a day, and he normally drinks no water (I feed a diet that's very high in moisture). After he had three teeth extracted, he drank a fair amount of water. From my own experience, anesthesia is very dehydrating. For your peace of mind, I'd call the vet to ask about the peeing and the hyperactivity. But anesthesia affects all cats differently, so I suspect this is just a reaction to the drug, and after 3 - 4 days, things will settle back into a more normal routine. :cross: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:
